On the occasion of next Christmas, the Vilnius Station District community has created a musical greeting for Vilnius and its residents, who are invited not to cry and regain optimism overshadowed by the pandemic.
The song was born from the motto “Don’t let Vilnius get well together”, which appeared on the wall of the “Peronas” bar at the Vilnius train station during the spring quarantine. According to its owner Raimondas Pranka, punctuation is not used in the motto and it is an artistic idea that allows these four words to be interpreted and grouped as desired, because the meaning remains the same in any case.
He says that both the motto in spring and the song were born in winter with the same purpose: to make sad Vilnius happy. “It is not the people who are saddened by the restrictions, but the city, because it cannot be what it was. So during the first quarantine, the idea came up to tell Vilnius that we would recover, because we are together, and everything will be fine or even better than again. This message is also sent by the song and its video clip. Yes, now it is difficult for us, but it will not always be this way, so there is no point in complaining, ”says R. Pranka.
The music and lyrics for the Christmas song were composed by R. Pranka, performed by the group of bar enthusiasts from the station “Peronas” “Electronic Mazipan Princesses” and the vocalist Paulina Jankauskaitė.
Both passersby and celebrities were filmed
The creation of the song “Let’s Recover Together” and its video clip was initiated by the Vilnius land renewal project “Vilnius Connect”. According to the representative of the project, Julija Abromavičien aunque, although the moment is really difficult, it is still necessary to maintain optimism and share positive emotions with each other.
“It’s no wonder the song was born in this part of town. The station district community is unique, supports each other, builds its own traditions and, in the current context, does not succumb to the gloomy moods caused by a pandemic and urges them not to give in to others.
The goal of all residents, businesses and communities in the district who contributed to the creation of songs and videos is not only to make Vilnius and its people happy, but also to change the image of the station, to show that it is not just a gray scale and uninteresting for travelers from one point to another. There are many charming spaces, charismatic and interesting people in the station, which guarantee a good mood and impressions, ”says J. Abromavičienė.
The video for the song was filmed until the quarantine hardening. He did not film any actors, only real people who work in the area of the station, live and contribute to its transformation. A colorful, artistic and somewhat humorous video clip filmed in fifteen different spaces. Representatives of the communities are shown dancing and singing, and at the same time doing daily tasks: who cleans the bar, who bakes the bread, who waits for the train.
“We include several businesses: bakeries, bars, cafes, a painting studio, the Hall Market. Passersby also filmed, as well as representatives of the city’s buses, train stations and transport companies: a ticket seller, a driver, a bus driver. After all, the station is always a lively and busy place, where all public transport possibilities are connected, ”says the representative of Vilnius Connect.
Familiar faces can also be seen in the video clip. One of them is an architect, Algirdas Kaušpėdas, leader of the Antis group, who has been part of this district for a long time and is probably the first to talk about the changes in the season. He filmed on the roof of the Lithuanian Railways building.
The creator Dovilė Filmanavičiūtė also became part of the video clip. The woman claims to have a close relationship with the station area and especially with the train station, as her husband has been traveling by train Vilnius-Kaunas to work for 11 years.
The song inspired me to create an image.
The invitation to Vilnius not to be sad does not end with a song and a video clip, it has already been captured in a painting by Indrė Antanavičiūtė, the director of the painting studio “Two Cup Art” located in the station area. The abstract painting is full of symbols that reflect the station area: it features Tony Soprano’s legs, scattered vines, interlocking cups, the Hook sign, railroad tracks.
“Now it is also a bit sad in the studio, because there are only empty easels and there are no painting enthusiasts. But you need to try to instill optimism, smile as much as possible, find activities that brighten the mood. For example, I walk to an animal shelter to train the dogs.
Picture in the studio so far, I plan to hang it on a window for passersby to admire. I hope that in the future he will be in a more public place, where more Vilnius residents will see him. Or maybe they will even travel to different districts of the city and convey the message “Don’t be sad Vilnius, let’s get back together”, smiles the artist.
