To curb the spread of the coronavirus, police launched a mass screening of the country at noon on Friday, with most drivers traveling ready, with documents proving the purpose of the trip.
One of the checkpoints was installed in the direction of the capital in Avižieniai, there was no major congestion during the first hour of the restrictions and few cars were turned off.
“In many cases, people are really prepared for the control procedures: they have documents confirming the trip, certificates, extracts,” Renatas Požėla, Commissioner General of Police, told reporters.
“The selection procedures are fast, we are leaving people in the right direction and allowing them to move forward,” he added.
In total, the police installed 250 checkpoints at the entrances to municipal centers, prohibition signs were placed here, part of the entrances to cities were blocked, and in some places traffic was monitored with so-called tripods.
“We will work on this principle until Sunday night. The largest flows were on Wednesday and the flows are gradually decreasing, we expect them to decrease on Saturday and Sunday,” said the police chief.
People had no problems
Dainius Yžička, who went to Vilnius from Maišiagala after working from home, had no problem during the inspection and says he is sure of the restrictions.
“There are very positive restrictions, there may be even more. It will not cause inconvenience, the order is the order, ”said 57-year-old furniture maker BNS.
The young man, who went to work in the capital from the suburbs, says he had no problems either: the documents were at hand, the procedure was carried out promptly.
“I have a permit, I am going to work. I went to pick up the cargo on the road. The restrictions are strict, but everything is in order, there were no problems with the permits,” said a 21-year-old Vilnius neighbor who did not want to appear.
During the first hour in Avižieniai, only one car was turned around; most of the participants were ready with the documents that demonstrated the purpose of the trip.
Other services also help
Ainė Ramonaitė, shooter and political scientist, helps the police at the Avižieniai checkpoint.
“Some people are really prepared, but there are some who don’t understand it, we had to change some,” the political scientist told BNS.
He said he checked the cars of the newcomers and, if there were any problems, called the police for help.
“We just stop and check, if something goes wrong, we hand it over to the police for processing,” said A. Ramonaitė.
According to her, the shooters are trying to help the state with this challenge, some are even taking a vacation.
“We try to do duty and who takes the leave from work, who is in some way different,” said the shooter.
In addition to the shooters, the police are also assisted by military police and border guards.
People are urged not to be cunning
The General Commissioner of Police, R. Požėla, urges people not to cheat, such people will not be tolerated.
“It just came to our knowledge then. The rules of the game are clear to everyone: there are points to be overcome. Those who try to cheat will definitely receive ‘bonuses’ from the Christmas police of 500 euros,” said R. Požėla.
He said that so far no such situations had occurred and also said he was unaware of the conflicts with the drivers.
The blocking stations will be installed from Friday at 1 pm until Sunday at 9 pm.
In total, more than 900 police teams will work in the country during the weekend, as well as more than 300 shooters, 270 border guards and about fifty military policemen.
