The police announce that they will organize stationary checkpoints at the entrances of all municipal centers in the country, where vehicles entering the cities will be controlled.
Part of the accesses will be blocked by technical means, surveillance cameras will be installed or prohibition posters will be built. At least two officers will work at each post, and high-traffic posts will use police officers, shooters, etc.
According to Ramūnas Matonis, a representative of the Police Department, all vehicles will stop and the police will ask drivers to present documents that demonstrate the need to move from one municipality to another.
“As the first two days showed, of course, the posts were not permanent, they were mobile, but we did not leave more than 600 cars in another municipality. There were around 300 attempts to get from one municipality to another in one day, which does not have a good reason for that, ”said R. Matonis, emphasizing that these people were not punished, they were simply offered to return to their municipality of residence.
However, a Police Department spokesperson emphasizes that people who maliciously attempt to circumvent the restrictions will be subject to fines.
“Those people who lie to officials trying to get through other places, where there may be signs prohibiting movement or some kind of physical barrier, we will definitely impose responsibility on those people, and the liability is really quite strict, from 500 euros to 1.5 thousand . he said.
The blocking posts at the entrances of the city will be established from December 18. 1 pm until December 20. 9 pm, from December 23. 1 pm to 27 d. 9 pm and from December 31st. 1 pm until January 3. 9 pm
Over the weekend, 670 police teams will be on duty in the country, another 250 teams at checkpoints, so 920 teams will patrol all over Lithuania over the weekend.
