The SBGS announces that starting this Friday, patrols of SBGS officials in various parts of Lithuania, mainly in the border regions, will be on duty at the entrances to cities or towns to verify whether travelers have the right to enter another territory from the municipality where they live.
In the periods from December 18 to 20, from December 23 to 27 and from December 31 to January 3. A total of around 270 SBGS patrols consisting of two border guards will be assigned to these checkpoints. It is true that both SBGS officials will not be on duty at the same time. A double-digit number of patrols with two border guards are expected to operate at these checkpoints at all times. The patrols will change every day, thus ensuring the good performance of the direct functions of the SBGS related to the physical protection of the border, work at international checkpoints with neighboring countries, etc.
Border guards will mainly carry out traveler screening between municipalities in border regions, according to the SBGS report. For example, travelers will see that they are stopped by SBGS officials when entering Šilutė, Pagėgiai, Druskininkai, Šalčininkai, Švenčionis, Ignalina, and other cities and towns. Border patrols will also work at the blockade posts near Klaipėda, Palanga, Šiauliai, Vilnius, Varėna and elsewhere.
When movement restrictions were also introduced in Lithuania last Easter, SBGS officials also assisted the police in such measures.
