On Thursday, the president signed a decree addressing the Council of Judges, asking for advice on the presentation of these candidates to the Seimas.
“According to the President, these renowned and respected members of the judiciary have impeccable reputations, exceptional personal and professional competence, as well as solid legal experience,” said the Presidency.
A. Driukas has more than 36 years of legal work experience, he already served as a judge of the SCL in 1999-2003, at the beginning of his career as a judge he worked in the District Court of the city of Druskininkai, he was president for a long time of the Civil Cases Division of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal.
The Presidency notes that A. Driukas “is considered one of the pioneers of judicial mediation in Lithuania”, for five years he has presided over the Judicial Mediation Commission formed by the Council of Judges, has obtained a doctorate degree and is a professor at the Vilnius University (VU).
E. Tamošiūnienė, who has more than 23 years of legal work experience, has been a lawyer for a long time, since 2013 she has been a judge in the Lithuanian Court of Appeal and was the president of the Civil Cases Division of this court. She also has a doctorate and teaches students from the VU, a month ago she became a member of the Council of Judges, vice president.
The Candidates Selection Commission recognized the candidates as the most suitable for the position of judges of the SCL.
In accordance with the Constitution, SCL judges are appointed and removed by the Seimas on the recommendation of the president, with the advice of the Council of Judges.
