On Wednesday, after the government meeting in which these projects were approved, the Ministry of Social Security and Labor issued a notice informing that the new benefit provided for in them will be paid as of July 1 of next year.

“Poverty still affects too many older people. We hope that the introduction of a supplementary pension for single people of retirement age will help reduce poverty and exclusion not only of elderly widows, but also of our single elderly people.” The Minister of Social Security and Labor, Monika Navickienė, cited in the report.

Until now, the widow’s pension is paid only to people who have reached retirement age and whose deceased spouse has had at least a minimum duration of pension insurance or has received a disability or old-age pension before the date of death .

“Currently, the average widow’s pension reaches 28 euros, it is received for about 210 thousand. widow pensioners. Twice as many people would receive a pension: more than 400 thousand. people ”, calculated the specialists of the ministry.

During the Seimas session on Thursday, it became clear that the new government has not provided money for new benefits in either the state budget or the Sodra budget.

This was not denied by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security itself.

“15 million 1 million euros for single payments is included in the deficit projections of public administrations. There is no precise law governing these pensions and it will be adopted in the spring session together with the revised budget for the inclusion of the Fund of Resilience and Economic Recovery of the EU (FRR), and the funds for the payment of pensions of a single person will be included. In addition, we will know the real need at that time “, informed this Thursday the specialists of the ministry.

Generally speaking, the ministry confirms that no money is provided for new benefits. However, they can be borrowed next year.

Even so, 15 million. 42 thousand euros would not be enough to pay benefits of 42 thousand euros for half a year. population. This would require 57.9 million euros. euros. Even if the amount of the widow’s pension were paid, i.e. a payment of 28 EUR (which was appointed by the Ministry after correcting the initial notification) over 6 months would take at least 38.6 million EUR. euros.

By the way, the former Minister of Social Security and Labor of the Seimas, Linas Kukuraitis, also lacked funds for new benefits for single people in Sodra and the state budgets.

The Seimas should finally vote on the state budget on December 22.
