The spokesperson for the president of the Seimas, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen Paulius Žeimys BNS, confirmed that the president of the Parliament is proposing A. Kabišaitis to the CC, which will be presented on Tuesday together with the lawyers provided by the president Gitanas Nausda and the president of LAT Sigita Rudėnaitė.
President G. Nausėda appointed attorney G. Lastauskienė for the last term, but the Seimas rejected him, as did two other candidates, LAT Judge A. Norkūnas and the nomination of the former Chancellor of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Danielienė proposed by the then president of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis.
After the vote, President G. Nausėda declared that a judge would again apply for the same candidacy for the CC, and SCL head S. Rudėnaitė did the same a few months later.
After the unsuccessful vote of the CC judges, V. Pranckietis registered a resolution on another candidacy: A. Kabišaitis.
In April, the Seimas rejected the three CC judges. Then, as the main reproach to the candidates, it was mentioned that they are not specialists in constitutional law.
The Constitution provides that the Constitutional Court is renewed every three years for one third. The Court is made up of nine judges appointed for nine years and for one term only.
The mandate of the president of the Constitutional Court Dainius Žalimas and of the judges Gediminas Mesonis and Vytas Milius ended on March 19. They will remain in office until new judges are appointed.
The judges of the CC are appointed and dismissed by the Seimas.
