Facebook in Europe has temporarily disabled some Messenger and Instagram functions

Facebook does not provide a complete list of disabled features, but indicates on its support sites that both Instagram and Messenger will not yet have a poll feature, as well as “stickers” that allow you to customize your speech on Instagram. Another feature that may be disabled is blocking the sending of certain files through Messenger, as well as the ability to share aliases or augmented reality effects on the Instagram network.

Facebook says it has temporarily disabled these features due to new rules on data usage in EU countries. These rules are part of the national application of the 2002 Electronic Privacy Directive. The directive imposes stricter restrictions on the use of data in communication services operating in EU countries.

It is not yet known when Facebook will adapt those features to the new rules, but a spokeswoman for the social network has said they will return “very soon.”
