“We greatly ask the members of the Economic Committee and the Seimas to take into account the request from the whole of western Lithuania and to include the Palanga airport runway in the reconstruction with DNA funds for 2021”, Š. Silence.
“Airports have been preparing for this for a long time, they have prepared all the necessary technical documentation and removed the construction documents. As far as the information reached me, the public procurement procedures have already started, ”he added.
According to the mayor, according to experts, if the renovation works were not carried out, the tour would last a maximum of one more year.
“Later, there is the threat that Lithuania will not have one of the international airports until the road is rebuilt. This is not just a wish, but a threatening situation. The airports are ready to fully implement this plan by 2021. The year 2021 would be a very suitable time for us, because aviation is poor now, flights would not be significantly disrupted, ”Š said. Silence.
Klaipėda Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas stated that the track is important for the entire Western Lithuania region.
“This is a very good landing route for those investments that come to Klaipeda, the western region, so this logistics chain is especially important. (…) This is not an investment in one of the airports, it is an investment to strengthen the potential of the Lithuanian economy, ”said V. Grubliauskas.
Marius Gelžinis, General Director of Airports of Lithuania, said that the airports are fully prepared for this project, there is only a lack of funding.
“Airports are prepared both from a technical point of view and from other resources. In 2019, we re-inspected the runway and the situation showed that it is extremely poor. All technical documentation is ready. Today is the last day to submit offers for get contractors involved in this project. We hope to get potential contractors online in the first week of January, “he said.
According to M. Gelžinis, another 18 million are needed for the implementation of this project. € 24 million euros.
Zita Dubickienė, head of the Department of Budget and Investments at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, stated at the meeting that the funds could only be provided from the state budget.
“The Ministry of Transportation and Communications does not have such opportunities from its own funding sources, because it does not have such resources at its disposal. In assessing that need, it would be a request to provide in the state budget, ”said Z. Dubickienė.
The Ministry of Finance, for its part, responds that such a possibility does not exist due to the deterioration of the economic situation.
“The issue of rebuilding the Palanga Airport was definitely considered, but according to the investment program for 2021-2027, there is no possibility of financing it as much with the Economic Recovery Fund, so it could be financed only with the state budget. However, due to the changing and uncertain financial and economic situation, it is not possible to increase the allocations from the state budget in the near future, ”said Alicija Penkovskaja, Chief Specialist of the Ministry’s Short-Term Investment Planning Division.
“As planned, funding for the DNA plan is not adequate for funding. Since there are plans to review the DNA plan, we may revisit the issue,” he added.
The Seimas Economic Committee proposed to review the funds allocated for the development of virtual airlines in the future and to allocate part of them for the reconstruction of the Palanga Airport runway.
