Šimonytė: Quarantine can get even tougher

According to her, there may be solutions that separate the trade in essential goods from non-essential ones.

“The experience in Europe, it must be said, is different, there are few countries where it is clearly not possible to trade in points of sale that sell both food and non-food products, because then it is already necessary to discuss whether the elements, the light bulbs are a commodity necessary, or not, but it’s done. (…) If it becomes a big center of attraction and you see people just entertaining themselves in stores or spending a lot of time in large crowds, obviously a bigger setting should be considered ”Explained the Prime Minister.

“We will monitor the situation very closely, if additional decisions are needed, for example for non-food goods or accommodation services during the holiday period, those decisions will be made,” he added.

A stricter quarantine regime will take effect in Lithuania on Wednesday, during which many shops, hair salons will be closed and the movement of people restricted. Pharmacies and grocery stores will be able to continue their operations, but they will not be prohibited from selling other products either.

Food trade will only be allowed in markets, independent non-food stores will have to close.

Starting Wednesday, contact services for more than 15 minutes will also not be available and there will be no public services in churches.

Residents cannot leave their municipality for very important reasons, and only family members or two people from different families can walk in public places.
