One person enters the mobile examination point every three minutes and the hospital is already preparing for the installation of additional COVID-19 beds.

Last week, when the combat section was expanded by 5 beds, an order was received and the section was further expanded. It is true that the current premises no longer have space for development, so the extra beds will be raised to the ground floor, the premises of the Therapy Department.

According to Stasys Skauminas, director of Kėdainiai Hospital, initially there was talk of installing 25 additional beds, but Kėdainiai Hospital does not currently have those resources.

“As of December 17, another combat section will open with 15 additional beds, so we will have a total of 70 beds with oxygen. Systems are currently being installed and a liquefied oxygen tank is being built.

Extra beds will be opened in the Therapeutic Building. However, the outlook is that at least 10 other beds will be opened later. Here, the Marijampolė Hospital was immediately instructed to expand the ward by 25 beds.

We don’t have that many doctors, so far they have given us a smaller number, ”said S. Skauminas, adding that a maximum of 80 beds with oxygen can be installed in that building. If you are instructed to expand the section further, a particularly difficult situation awaits you.

“In this case, the hospital will have to be closed.

There will be no emergency, because if we allow patients with problems to enter all the hospital buildings, we will not be able to provide other services. Of course, nobody wants that, they are trying to find other solutions ”, expected the head of the hospital.

The activities of the Department of Pediatrics are suspended

The therapeutic home has so far been equipped with a so-called diagnostic department. It gave patients time to get tested for coronavirus when they arrived for scheduled services. In that section they waited for a response from the investigation. This diagnostic department is now moving to the facilities of the Department of Pediatrics.

“Virtually no one is carrying children at the time, there are one or two children. We will coordinate this matter with Jonava or Raseiniai, because there are no combat hospitals, they will accept the children of our country.

We will leave a pediatrician on call in the Admissions Department of Kėdainiai Hospital, who will be on call 24 hours a day. Urgent help will be provided for the child. At the reception, a pediatrician will examine the child, provide assistance and see if he leaves him at home or sends him to another hospital, ”reported S. Skauminas.

The head of the hospital added that as of December 17, the planned assistance will also be limited. It will continue to be provided, but on a smaller scale.

Emergency care will be provided in all cases, the outpatient clinic is also open.

How many beds and doctors

The coronavirus department currently employs more than 50 doctors. With the expansion of the department, it will employ 25 more doctors. Doctors and nurses from other departments move to work in the department.

“The team of doctors of a patient with coronavirus is made up of a doctor-therapist, a doctor of another specialty, nurses.

Doctors of other specialties consult with internal medicine doctors or call Kaunas and consult with infectologists there. We have developed treatment schemes that specify what, how and what condition to treat patients, “said the interlocutor.

In the attic apartment, the doctors work in full protection, so there are very few cases of infection here, and those present are likely to be brought from the family environment.

A doctor and a nurse are sick here. A doctor who had been ill previously had recovered and returned to work in the ward. The two medics who were being treated in the hospital’s combat department and who were receiving oxygen have almost recovered.

The disease does not recover

If you are young and healthy and you think that the disease will take over you, you are wrong. Kėdainiai Hospital also houses young, previously healthy people, for whom the course of the disease is especially difficult.

A doctor at Kėdainiai Hospital is also very seriously ill; his condition is very serious.

“The further, the more, the heavier and the younger the patients are. Children also appear in other hospitals. We did not treat the children, we transported them to Kaunas, but there were already infected and seriously ill children with us.

There are people in their 30s or 40s with a serious illness. Of course, there are fewer of them, not the elderly, but there are.

We have a seriously ill doctor. He had serious comorbidities, his condition is very serious, he is lying in clinics in Kaunas. It is difficult to say how it will end, he has been treated there for the second month in a row, “the hospital director shared his sad knowledge.
