Therefore, M. Bieliūnas concluded that the method chosen by Sweden to combat the coronavirus pandemic is somewhat controversial.
“This shows that the way Sweden has chosen to manage the pandemic is somewhat controversial.” Let’s say the situation itself, when no quarantine was announced in the country, (…) without knowing the exact data, the virus profile, older adults were pushed to the front: their immunity is the lowest, vulnerability, highest. Now we see those results, on the one hand, yes, society has not lost some liberties, but when designing the Swedish data for Lithuania, the results would be really unacceptable, ”said the public figure.
He said that if Lithuania had chosen the same antivirus measure, there would have been dozens of times more deaths in the country.
“Because now, according to the Swedish scenario, we would have around 1,049 deaths in Lithuania. And the situation is gradually approaching that, on the Swedish scenario, we would have as many deaths as we do. The Swedish scenario does not seem to be suitable for Lithuania, although it may seem very positive for many due to the fact that fewer economic restrictions have been introduced. But in the initial stage of a pandemic, you have to be more careful not to jump into an unknown body of water, “said M.
