He will visit the German capital from December 13 to 14 and in Brussels until December 16, the BelaPAN news agency reported, citing the press service of the Belarusian opposition leader.
“In Brussels, Cichanouskaja will meet with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and hold several meetings within the European Union (EU),” the report said.
Among other things, meetings are planned with the EU Director of Diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the Vice-President of the European Commission (EC), Vera Yurova, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Development, Oliver Varhelyi, and the special representative of the EU for human rights, Eamon Gilmore.
Meetings with members of the European Parliament (EP) and political groups will also be held.
Cichanouskaya will also address a joint meeting of the Foreign Affairs, Development and Human Rights Committees and the Delegation for Relations with Belarus.
The former candidate for the presidency of Belarus will also participate in the Andrei Sakharov Prize events, which this year went to the democratic opposition in Belarus.
In Berlin, Cichanouskaya will meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Wolfgang Schaeuble.
He will also meet with the writer, Nobel Prize in Literature, and Sviatlana Alexeyevich, member of the presidium of the Coordination Council established by the Belarusian opposition.
Belarus has been holding massive protests for more than four months over the presidential elections on August 9, which were officially announced by Aliaksandr Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and Western democracies view these elections as rigged, and the real winner is political rookie S. Cichanouska, who ran in place of her incarcerated husband.
The protesters are demanding the resignation of Lukashenko, the release of political prisoners and new elections.
