Lithuania organized a meeting of the parties to the United Nations Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) and the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment to this Convention on December 8-11.

The 30th anniversary of the Convention was marked by a remote meeting of the parties. Important decisions have also been made on the guidelines for the applicability of the Convention to the extension of the useful life of nuclear power plants and the adoption of a long-term strategy and action plan for this international agreement until 2030.

The Espoo Convention currently brings together 45 countries: 44 countries and the European Union.

The successful meeting of the parties to the Espoo Convention is the result of Lithuania’s international cooperation with the Espoo Convention Secretariat, the European Commission, the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as with Finland and other countries.
