He was the only one who was interviewed by the selection board when four candidates participated in the competition and two candidates submitted the necessary documents.
The Ministry of Education informed BNS about this this week.
According to her, the competition took place on November 6 and Mr. Numgaudis began his five-year term on November 26.
The commission, which is the final stage of the contest, had two representatives from the Ministry: the Director of the Department of Educational Quality and Regional Policy and the Head of the Personnel Department.
The rector of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, director of the Vilnius Good Hope Progymnasium, also participated.
The commission also included three representatives from the MK Čiurlionis National School of Arts: a representative of the students, a teacher and one each. A union representative also attended as an observer.
The final decision on D. Numgaudis was made by the outgoing Minister of Education, Algirdas Monkevičius.
As director of the MK Čiurlionis School of Arts, D. Numgaudis replaced the music teacher Romordas Kondrotas, who had directed it since 1994.
The school announced that on that occasion a ceremony was held, during which the rector of the Ministry, Tomas Daukantas, presented R. Kondrotas with the highest award of the Ministry – the Badge of Honor – for his contribution to the development of the educational system and responsible, innovative and creative management work in the long term.
The former manager did not participate in the competition
R. Kondrotas, long-term director of the MK Čiurlionis School of Arts, stated that he had made the decision not to participate in the competition and to withdraw.
“My year is such that it probably is not yet – younger people have to come to work, so I did not participate, no one encouraged me to participate, my decision is like that,” said R. Kondrotas.
“I was hoping that the ministry, if I needed it, would give a message, the ministry was silent, so I decided it wasn’t necessary,” he added.
As far as he knows, the second candidate who attended the interview with the commission fell ill.
“I know that someone else from the Čiurlionis school participated, someone seemed to have participated from other cities (…) He was still one of the school, but he seemed to be ill, he did not come to the competition, so he was left alone,” he said the former director.
The fact that only Numgaudis was the only one who entered the contest does not surprise the former head of the school.
“It seems to me that now there are only one and two candidates for school principals. They are simply lacking, because a person, when he comes to lead, gets a temporary work contract, and a young man who wants to get a home loan or something else cannot, no one finds a temporary work contract. “Here it has been done in such a strange way, that I never understood,” said R. Kondrotas.
According to him, D. Numgaudis knows well the problems of MK Čiurlionis’s school life since he worked at the Ministry.
“He knew the Čiurlionis school. When he was rector, he had many contacts with this school because all kinds of construction works were carried out: dormitory, theater, he really knew a lot like the former rector,” said the retired school principal. .
He said he had doubts that the competition for the manager position might have been non-transparent.
“There was a commission for that, after all, the school representatives also participated in the commission (…) I hope they were not prejudiced towards him, all the more because they knew nothing about him,” said Kondrot.
At the same time, he was pleased to receive the award from Chancellor T. Daukantas during a modest ceremony in late November, which he said was attended by several administration employees who did not work remotely.
D. Numgaudis tried to expand his diplomatic career
D. Numgaudis, who started directing the MK Čiurlionis School of Arts, says he wanted to extend his diplomatic career, but received a negative response.
“The law provides for this possibility, because I was lucky to work, I asked – I applied, but it was decided not to (…) I had a temporary contract and I knew it would expire in five years. It’s over and I was looking for another job, ”D. Numgaudis told BNS.
He said he had not received an offer to enter the art school directors competition, but had found the ad himself.
“There was no offer (…) Competitions were announced, and I, because I knew that I would finish my work in St. Petersburg on August 28, so I saw it,” said the school principal.
He also said he was not surprised that other candidates did not come to the competition.
“There really are cases like this,” Numgaudis said.
According to him, the higher education diploma had to be shown twice during the competition, the competition itself was organized, precisely.
“I have a higher education diploma, according to today’s numbers. During the contest, the original had to be shown twice (…) It was clear to everyone that it would be viewed with a magnifying glass and the ministry organized everything too precisely” said the director.
According to him, the problems of the school are close to him both due to diplomatic activities and previous jobs in the Ministry of Education.
“I have always been interested in what is happening there, I came often, working in St. Petersburg, I probably invited several delegations to represent Lithuania five times, so I am aware of all the problems of the school,” said D. Numgaudis .
“I have been in contact with the school and the ministry as consul general,” he added.
In 1991, D. Numgaudis graduated with honors from the then Faculty of History of the Vilnius State Pedagogical Institute, worked at the 62nd Vilnius Secondary School, the current Gabija Gymnasium, and later became the Deputy Director of this school.
In 1993, D. Numgaudis was one of the initiators of the creation of the VPU University School – the current Simonas Daukantas Gymnasium – and became its first director.
With the establishment of the National Examination Center in 1996, he was appointed director.
From 1997 to 2015, Mr. Numgaudis worked at the Ministry of Education as its secretary and chancellor, and is the longest-serving chancellor of the ministry.
His last day in the ministry was August 27, 2015, and on September 7 he attended the Consul General’s work in St. Petersburg.
