Insurance and repair companies say they have never seen a year like this. This year, like never before, it has grown due to the damage caused by careless behavior at home by Lithuanians.
Apply for insurance
In case of accidents at home, Lithuanians first turn to insurance companies. These tell us that we noticed a sharp increase in population activity.
Lietuvos Draudimas registers about 30 percent. more disasters at home. According to them, the situation in the country is to blame for the disasters.
“There is no doubt that the reason for such increase is the quarantine, both in spring and autumn. Residents are spending more time at home, preparing food, managing, and therefore the number of home property damage is growing, ”says Aivaras Tumėnas, Mortgage Insurance Portfolio Manager at Lietuvos Draudimas.
During the 10 months of this year, Lietuvos Draudimas alone registered around 7,300 home claims and paid almost 3 million LTL to the insured population. loss of euros.
Gjensidige is also said to be seeing an increase in the number of domestic accidents. Both companies say that many televisions, hob and oven glass are broken in Lithuanian homes. They also destroy phones and computers.
“Statistics show an increase in disasters related to food production and housework. According to Gjensidige, 115 fire pits were recorded between February and December. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, these events have doubled from 5-7 to 13-15 per month. We see a trend that the number of such disasters decreased in the summer months, but after the announcement of the second quarantine in the country doubled again, ”says Viktorija Katilienė, Gjensidige Claims Manager for the Baltic States.
Gjensidige says that in addition to damaged appliances, floor tiles also break and people get hurt when they make them at home.
“We have recorded cases of body burns with hot oil and baldness with boiling tea,” says V. Katilienė.
More repairs
The companies that repair it also notice an increase in the flows of damaged equipment.
AG’s service says they take more orders and repair equipment that they bring to and from customers’ homes. Like insurance companies, this company says it is hearing more and more damaged appliances.
“Televisions with broken screens, cooktops with broken glass, broken oven glass. Somewhere, sometime, carelessly clapping with a chair or with some silverware, something fell, clinking. Devices explode, no automatic mechanical damage ”, Says Vaida Tamulaitienė, AG Service Manager.
However, Domio, which offers home call services, says it only receives fewer appliance repair requests.
“A considerable increase of about a third in demand for other categories: universal foreman, plumbers, electricians, finishers,” says Kiril Žarkov, director of Domio, on tv3.lt.
In Lithuania, the quarantine runs until December 17. You can see the quarantine requirements in the illustration on tv3.lt.
