According to the Kaunas County Police, on December 9 at 3.39 a.m., a message was received that a man born in 1933 had fallen and was fatally injured on Kaunas Eivenių Street. As a result, a pre-trial investigation was launched to determine the cause of death. It turned out that the disaster occurred when a patient from the Kaunas clinics fell out of the window.

In 15 minutes appealed to the relatives of the deceased. They raised more than one question about what happened. Relatives of the man who fell out the window said he lived alone in the Prienai district, was conscious and walked alone. Feeling ill a few days ago, the old man turned to his daughter. This led him, walking on his own two feet, to the Balbieriškis Hospital for Nursing and Supportive Treatment. There, a cardiogram was performed on the disabled person and the elderly man was sent to the Prienai emergency department. In this medical institution a heart attack was confirmed, so an ambulance transferred the patient to the Kaunas clinics.

Initially, according to the relatives of the deceased, Senol was admitted to the intensive care unit, transferred on December 8 to one of the wards of the Cardiology Clinic. Doctors from the Kaunas clinics contacted the patient’s relatives by phone and said that the patient was not feeling ill.

He himself contacted relatives on the night of December 8 to 9. The oldest, according to his grandson’s family, was obviously delirious, saying that “two bandits have come to kill me.” It happened around 00:30. A few hours later, the patient was found falling through the window of the Kaunas clinics. He was pronounced dead.

“A police investigator, not a Kaunas clinic, informed us that he had died. This sounded around 5.30 pm and said an investigation was underway. So far there is no knowledge of the Kaunas clinics,” they resented the relatives of the deceased.

They, shocked, do not understand why a patient who had suffered a heart attack and was deceived by medication and medical interventions was not supervised more closely, why it was possible to easily open a window in the wards of such patients. Family members also have doubts as to whether the patient was not transferred prematurely from the intensive care unit. After all, for example, patients recovering from anesthesia often have multiple hallucinations, so this can happen to anyone, even a teenager or child.

“First of all, my condolences to the loved ones who have lost a loved one. We understand the family’s grief and can assure you that we are doing everything possible to clarify the situation and its circumstances. Now a commission has been created to conduct an internal investigation, during which we hope to learn all the circumstances. 15 minutes awarded by Austė Aleksandravičiūtė-Šviazienė, Head of the Communication Department of the Kaunas Clinics.

15 minutes asked Kaunas County Police to provide statistics on the number of such events during the year when patients die from falling out of ward windows. When we receive it, we will supplement the publication.

Relatives of the deceased later reported that suicide had been mentioned on the death certificate as the official cause of death.
