The prosecution reports that the Šiauliai District Court announces that the Šiauliai Chamber has handed down a judgment convicting a 50-year-old resident of Akmenė District for robbery and attempted rape. A man who has already been convicted nine times has been sentenced to six years and one month in prison.
Irena Zgierskytė-Strumilaitė, a prosecutor in the Šiauliai District Prosecutor’s Office, who led the pre-trial investigation, transferred the criminal case to court after a month-long investigation. Data was collected that the crime was committed in September this year at the Šiauliai bus station, where the convict appeared late at night, after 11 p.m. On the same day, the man was transferred from the ambulance team from his home to Šiauliai hospital and discharged for outpatient treatment a few hours later.
According to the study, the man was taken from the hospital to the station. The station was empty, so the convicted repeat offender decided to enter the official premises of the company. There was an employee in them who, seeing the intruder, tried to leave the room, but the male foot closed the door and did not let the employee out. The woman tried to call for help: the security remote control was activated, but the security guards could not reach it. The man threatened the woman with a knife in his hand and ran towards her. In defense, the woman injured her hand with a knife held by the convict.
The court found that a resident of Akmenė district had demanded that the woman have sexual relations with her against the woman’s will. The clerk outwitted the intruder: lured the man out of the room, promising him everything he wanted. So he managed to escape the intruder to the open parking lot of the bus station. Immediately afterwards, the man grabbed the woman’s cell phone and fled.
Police officers soon found the thief near the bus station, but the man did not plead guilty. The repeat offender was not wearing face protection, which made it easily recognizable and therefore easy to find by the police.
An important witness in this case was a close relative who spoke to the victim on the phone just before the intruder appeared. When the husband broke in, the employee hung up the phone, so the caller overheard part of the conversation between the intruder and a relative. The woman on the other end of the phone was not lost and immediately reported the incident to police officers.
A court ruling can be appealed to the Šiauliai Regional Court within 20 days via the Šiauliai District Court.
