After Šimonytė’s meeting with the peasants, there were unexpected signs in the faction

Prime Minister-designate I. Šimonytė, who visited the LVŽS faction on Wednesday, was accompanied not only by gifts, but also by applause. It seems that A. Norkienė herself uses much more positive rhetoric towards right-wing leaders.

The fact that the attitude of the “peasants” of the Seimas has changed significantly in a few weeks is well illustrated by I. Šimonytė’s earlier visit to the LVŽS faction, when it was still led by R. Karbauskis, and I. Šimonytė still it had not been approved by the Seimas. At that time, no member of the LVŽS faction asked I. Šimonyte a question. This was the protest against the decisions of the rulers and the declarations made about the distribution of some seats in the Seimas.

The elder of the LVŽS faction accompanied I. Šimonyte to the meeting of “peasants” on Wednesday with kind words. According to her, it is not surprising that this time the designated prime minister was received quite warmly by the “peasants” and even with symbolic gifts.

“They may have drawn us a little differently. We are really sincere people who work for Lithuania. And if the government works successfully, we will only live better from it. (…) Our conscience is clear both against ourselves and against the voters, and there are certainly no bad things … Yes, we respect the Prime Minister and her opinion, and we want constructive communication ”, said A. Norkienė afterwards of the faction meeting.

The politician summed up the meeting as intense, after which the LVŽS faction still remained undecided on how to vote on I. Šimonytė’s government program on Friday.

“The meeting was intense, an hour maybe even a little small for us. But I think the conversation was constructive, we listened to the responses that we heard. And today we are not discussing the approval of the program itself. We just heard from the Prime Minister and I think tomorrow we will have the opportunity to discuss this in the group, ”he said.

“I think we will make a joint decision. In the history of parliamentarism, the opposition is often opposed to the program. There are really things to criticize. So maybe we will try to weigh what else: pros or cons,” summarized A. Norkienė.

ELTA recalls that Prime Minister-designate I. Šimonytė visited the LVŽS faction on Wednesday to answer questions. After an hour-long conversation with the prime minister-designate, the peasants handed over a gift: a T-shirt with the image of interwar president Kazys Grinius. Some members of the faction even applauded after the conversation with I. Šimonyte.

On Friday, the Seimas will meet for an unscheduled session, in which it is planned to approve the government’s program headed by Prime Minister I. Šimonytė. Members of the new Government must also take the oath at this meeting.

Before the transfer of powers to the new Government, there was disagreement between the outgoing and incoming authorities on how COVID-19 should be handled in the face of the pandemic.

On Wednesday, the prime minister-designate addressed interim prime minister Saulius Skvernelis, requesting that decisions be made as soon as possible at the government meeting to tighten the quarantine conditions. According to her, the continuous increase in record numbers of people infected with coronavirus and the reports of daily deaths of citizens infected with COVID-19 show that the solutions taken so far have not helped to stabilize the situation and achieve its improvement.

But the outgoing prime minister says stricter quarantine rules are not needed and those in place on Wednesday are sufficient.
