According to the Employment Law, the DPI is paid for up to 6 months, but not beyond December 31, 2020. People who still applied for it had a week and a half to apply for the support.

“The jobseeker allowance is granted from the day the application is submitted to the Employment Service, so those entitled to it should not have to wait until December 31. Applicants may receive only a few dozens of pennies in their accounts on the last day of December, ”recalled Vaiva Slipikovienė, coordinator of services for job seekers.

This support is available to people who meet the criteria of unemployed status (do not work, do not study according to the general education program, etc.) and do not participate in active labor market policy measures. The DPI is € 42 or € 200 for a full month, depending on whether or not the person is receiving unemployment benefit.

The Employment Service pays this benefit every month; the term is calculated for the previous calendar month. In other words, by November, the money will reach the recipients’ accounts on December 31st. December will be paid accordingly until the end of January.

From June 12 to December 9, 329,020 people applied to the Employment Service for a job search allowance. Aid amounting to € 42 was allocated to 116,122 clients, from € 200 to 1,958.17. EUR.

The DPI is part of an overall package of measures to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine. In particular, this benefit guarantees at least a minimum income for those who have lost their job and cannot be quickly found again.
