“The main assumption we want to test is simply to implement such a measure so that those who die in their homes have a smear done by an ambulance that arrives there,” he told reporters on the Seimas on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the goal would be to find out if the deaths could be directly related to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It just came to our knowledge then covidinių deaths that are now, well, undetectable, just undiagnosed. (…) A person can die at home, but no one prescribes Covid-19. We want to test this hypothesis and then we will see ”, added the minister.
Last week, A.Veryga claimed that the increase in mortality in Lithuania is related to cardiovascular diseases, but added that “a certain number of coronavirus deaths may be hidden behind them.”
According to the Statistics Department, 1,014 people died in week 47 of this year alone.
Compared to the same period last year, this is the highest mortality in 20 years.
