According to the Armed Forces, in 2020 the Military Service and Recruitment Service received a total of 6,970 applications for permanent mandatory initial military service, of which 2,725 were voluntary applicants and 4,245 were on draft lists but sought priority service.
After the mandatory procedures of the Military Medical Examination Commission, more than half – about 4 thousand. the youth were recognized as eligible to assume their duties.
Most of the volunteers were registered in the Kaunas, Vilnius and Šiauliai regions.
In 2021, the call lists will be compiled on January 7. It is planned to call 3,828 young people in the coming years.
Recruit lists will be compiled from recruits born in 1998–2002 (inclusive) and graduates between the ages of 23 and 26 who have been deferred due to study at an institution of higher education.
Next year, the recruits will serve in 19 units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The first departure of the 2021 units is scheduled for March 29.
Starting this year, recruits between the ages of 18 and 23 are called up for permanent mandatory initial military service.
