K. Navickas was nominated for this position by representatives of the ruling coalition after the head of state rejected Dalia Miniataitė’s candidacy on Friday.

After the meeting, the Advisor to the President Antanas Bubnelis assured that the focus was on the priorities in agriculture – small and medium-sized, family and organic farms, increasing rural vitality, promoting agricultural competitiveness, transforming the sector into an environment-friendly sector. environment and higher added value.

Welcomes overlapping aspirations

“During the meeting, we discussed the main issues and challenges of the agricultural sector. I feel very good to receive the confidence of the Prime Minister to lead the agricultural sector, because the objectives, values ​​and aspirations that are established in the program of this Government are the aspirations that I personally pursued as Minister of the Environment and in my public life ” K. Navickas himself spoke after the meeting.

According to the candidate, a moderate shift towards protecting the environment, towards better environmental quality, is very important in agriculture. This is important for both wildlife and consumers. “I want to reduce the gap between the environmental sector and agriculture,” he said.

Thinking about the green exchange rate policy promoted by the European Union, K. Navickas assured that he would not make revolutions, but that he would try to use good examples.

“I am not proposing or proposing a revolution to farmers in this sector. Agriculture does not stop and today there are farmers who already cultivate differently, modernly, using modern technology. There is a significant amount of funding available from the European Fund. I believe that by encouraging farmers who have already moved to a more modern agriculture, giving good examples, we can also achieve greater progress in the environmental sector, “explained the candidate for agriculture ministers.

He stressed the importance of the team

After the meeting between G. Nausėda and K. Navickas, A. Bubnelis highlighted the importance of the team of the Minister of Economy. K. Navickas assured that he had not yet spoken with potential team members, but stressed that he had presented the team’s vision to the head of state.

“I have not spoken to anyone yet. We exchanged views with the president on the principles of team building, I expressed my vision. From what I understand, I did not receive any critical comments,” said K. Navickas.

Personal confidence and leadership in different agricultural subsectors will be important in team building, he said.

When asked how the head of state evaluates K. Navickas’ work in the field of agriculture, the president’s adviser assured that the evaluation is positive.
