According to the “campesino” guide, who resigned the mandate of a member of the Seimas, there is another condition to speak of the constructive work of the majority and minority of the Seimas.

“It all started with the position of vice president of Seimas and the issue is already resolved. Now there is a second topic: committees and commissions. One of the decisions that we look forward to a lot … It is even a kind of condition that there is no confrontation initiated by the rulers, that the president of the Audit Committee belongs to the peasants, ”R. Karbauskis told Elta on Thursday.

He pointed out that his opinion and that of Aušrinė Norkienė, the eldest of the “peasant” faction, that the appointment of J. Jarutis as the seventh vice president of the Seimas could reduce the tension that had arisen since the first session of this Seimas did not differ.

“My views do not differ between the faction and the elder. However, the appointment of a vice president is not what we intend. We strive to restore all the rights that belong to the Union of Peasants and Greens as the largest opposition faction in the Seimas after the elections, including the Audit Committee, whose president has not yet been appointed, ”said R. Karbauskis.

“We hope, and it is said, that the chairs of the Audit Committee will be appointed by the Union of Farmers and Greens. I only remind you of that in 2016. Šimonytė became the chairman of this committee, ”he said, rejoicing that his resignation from Seimas had been worth it.

“Obviously, I did the right thing, because the ruling majority had no other choice,” said R. Karbauskis, recalling the unusual behavior of the politician.

J. Jarutis, representative of the Lithuanian Green and Peasant Union faction in the Seimas working in the opposition, became the vice-president of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

On Thursday, in a secret vote, his candidacy was supported by 90 members of the Seimas, 10 against, 10 deputies abstained.

There has been tension in the Seimas for some time over the appointment of the vice presidents of the Seimas. The discontent was not hidden by the opposition faction of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union in the Seimas, which until now has not had a representative in the leadership of the Seimas.

The fact that in the Seimas elected in October the “peasant” faction remained without representation in the parliamentary council caused a strong friction between the LVŽS and the rulers. After the Seimas appointed representatives of the opposition Labor Party and Social Democrats as vice-presidents, the rulers said that the “peasants” could join the parliamentary board by electing an opposition leader.

However, such a proposal was treated by the “peasants” as blackmail and a disregard for the rights of the opposition. Ultimately, this became a precondition for LVŽS president Ramūnas Karbauskis to withdraw from the Seimas, claiming that he was doing so to guarantee the rights of the “peasant” faction in the Seimas.
