Joan Plaza has found a new job. The strategist has signed a contract with Coosur Real Betis de Sevilla, which competes in the Spanish ACB League, where he worked in 2009-2012.

The 56-year-old strategist has been out of work since February 2020, when he was fired by Zenit in St. Petersburg.

Plaza will replace Curro Segura, who was fired last week as chief strategist and lost his job after losing to Bilbao RETAbet Basket (86:89).

Currently, with 2 wins and 9 losses, the Coosur Real Betis team is ranked 17 in the ACB Championship and has lost the last three games.

Plaza is well known to the Lithuanian basketball community. In the 2012-2013 season, the strategist took the wheel of the Kaunas “Žalgiris” team and together with the team from the temporary capital became the LKL champion.

In Spain, Plaza coached one of the most famous and titled European clubs in 2006-2009: Real Madrid, with which he was proclaimed champion of the European Cup in 2007, beating Vilnius Lietuvos Rytas in the final 87:75.
