Jonava lit the main Christmas tree in Sąjūdis Square on Saturday. A unique city of Christmas trees was also inaugurated, with residents watching warm musical performances, spectacular light shows and fireworks.
Residents of Jonava greet this year’s winter holidays with the slogan “Let’s light up Christmas!” Therefore, the district deputy mayor, Biruta Gailienė, was helped by artist Andrius Šukutis’s golden sculpture, Žibinčius, to illuminate the main Christmas tree in the city.
Advent, which begins tomorrow, is a time of peace, waiting and concentration. It’s a great opportunity to look back and look back at last year to assess what they were like. And for all of us, they were full of challenges. It was a test of our unity, conscience, humanity and focus that I believe our city withstood.
At the same time, it is time to look at the heart of each one, to get rid of accumulated anxiety, bitterness, frustrations, doubts and bad thoughts. It is an opportunity to leave as much space as possible in your hearts for peace, mutual respect and understanding, love and sincerity. An opportunity to fill your hearts with light and warmth and share that light and warmth with others.
True, maybe not as much as we are used to, not with a kiss on the cheek, not with a hug or a handshake, but with a message, a call or a wave of the hand from afar. During this waiting period, I wish very much: to be light and warm with others, to share it generously but responsibly with others, ”said Deputy Mayor B. Gailienė.
A unique project launched last year in Jonava, the city of Christmas trees, continues this year in the same place, in the Plaza de la Paz in the center of the city.
More than 70 institutions and businesses in the district responded to the invitation of the district mayor, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, to create a city of Christmas trees, even more than last year.
“I am delighted with so much participation. I believe that the impressive and original Jonava Christmas trees will create a unique Christmas spirit and festive atmosphere in Jonava, ”said M. Sinkevičius.
Immediately after the lighting of the town and the main Christmas tree, the residents were able to admire the impressive musical fireworks, light projections, and see and listen to a traveling concert in different parts of the city.
The Jonava Cultural Center, which invites residents not to gather in one place, broadcasts all holiday events directly on the Internet.
Subject to all security requirements, residents and guests of the city are invited to take a walk through the illuminated Jonava and on Sunday: a show of lights and lasers will be displayed in the municipal building, the National Museum, St. in the Church of the Apostle Santiago, in the Plaza de la Paz.
