“The presidency received the missing documents from I. Brazdeikis, which are necessary when considering the issue of his citizenship. A decision on his citizenship is likely to be made later this year, “the president’s spokesman, Antanas Bubnelis, told BNS this week.

Earlier this year, he claimed that some of the documents submitted by the basketball player did not meet the requirements, so he was asked to clarify them.

At the end of January, the Lithuanian Basketball Federation announced that I. Brazdeikis had officially submitted all the necessary documents to the Presidency and that he would seek to obtain Lithuanian citizenship.

The 21-year-old Canadian basketball player of Lithuanian descent was born in Kaunas, but later emigrated to the United States with his parents. From there he moved to Canada, of which he currently has citizenship.

I. Brazdeikis belongs to the New York Knicks team, but he played more in the NBA G league, where he was one of the leaders of the Westchester Knicks.

Pursuant to the Citizenship Law, the President may exceptionally grant Lithuanian citizenship to citizens of other states with special merits or stateless persons who have integrated into Lithuanian society.
