“My salary was low, so after stealing the phones I was going to sell them and buy food,” Romualdas D, an employee of a Vilnius-based parcel company, later admitted, the evidence gathered.

Although she promised to spend the money on stolen phones for food, her husband did not buy it: he went to a bar where he got drunk and then drove the bus drunk, but fell asleep, and when he woke up, he realized that someone from the passengers had their bag with phones. fur collar.

Such circumstances became clear after the Vilnius City District Court examined the criminal case against Romualdas D. for the robberies committed. Judge Sonata Raupėnaitė-Lekarauskienė decided to release the former employee of the parcel company from criminal liability after reaching an agreement with the former recognized employer of the victim; the man compensated for the damage.

“The crime committed by the defendant Romuald D. is classified as an intentional misdemeanor and offense, Romuald D. has not been convicted before, regrets the crime, the victim companies apologized and reconciled with their representative, compensated the damage,” said the court. “In view of these circumstances, the court has reason to believe that Romuald D. will not commit any new crimes in the future.”

According to the data of the case, it was established that on May 27 of this year. Romualdas D. stole a package from a cargo trailer with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8Pro 4G mobile phone belonging to Telia Lietuva (value – EUR 175.50) at her workplace, at a parcel terminal. And the next day, he stole the Huawei Nova 5T (valued at € 300) Samsung A71 (€ 385.31) from the telecommunications company Tele2 in the same way.

It was the employees of the parcel company who learned that Romuald D. had stolen three new phones. An employee of the security department said during an interview with the police that the investigation began after receiving a complaint from a customer who claimed that he had not received a shipment containing a cell phone.

“Based on the shipment tracking data, we found that the shipment was delivered by courier and scanned at the terminal,” said a representative from the parcel company. – We then used video to determine how the shipment looked when scanned; further observing, we saw that the shipment had been transported to the gate, where it had to be loaded onto a truck that transported the shipments to another terminal. But the shipment was not scanned at the terminal upon receipt, so we realized that it had disappeared at the terminal. “

When analyzing the video, an employee of the parcel company noticed Romuald D., who had recently started working, and that, as seen in the recording, “had something stuck around his waist” and went to the changing room. And when she soon returned from him, he had nothing caught behind his shirt at the waist.

Two days later, the head of the Security Department invited Romualdas D. to speak with the then head of the terminal, who wanted to know where the shipment had disappeared.

“I was ready for a laptop because I was going to show the videos, but I didn’t even have to show them – when Romuald D. came to the meeting room and we told him we had questions about his work and we wanted to show the videos, the employee said that if the questions were misused “He does not need to show videos and added that he is very ashamed and wants to confess to the theft of their phones,” said the witness.

He said Romuald D. also admitted to stealing two more shipments that also contained cell phones.

“She said the phones were covered behind her waist, under her shirt, and she went to the locker room and put the phones in her bag, which she then took home,” the parcel company employee recalled.

According to the witness, Romuald D. claimed that he had the stolen phones at home, but the packages were already broken and he wanted to return them.

“We told him to write an explanation and bring the phones and leave them to the security guards, because at that time the working day was over,” said the head of the Security Department.

However, Romuald D. did not bring the phones to work, nor did he appear at the workplace. And when employers tried to reach him by phone, they couldn’t find him because the phone was off.

Employees of telecommunications companies were soon interested in the lost shipments and filed claims.

Romuald D., who was prosecuted at the time, argued in a police questioning that the biggest foolishness in life was due to a difficult financial situation.

“I have worked hard, but I did not think it would be so difficult to work in a parcel company. The first day of work I had to load large amounts of cargo at one time, it was abnormal,” said the parcel distributor. “The work was very hard and the pay was low.”

The man pointed out that the idea of robbing an employer did not come from him; I had heard from other people that “that option is possible.”

“One suggested and I tried, I got stuck, there was nothing more to say, I was smoking with a colleague, then he told me, so I decided to give it a try,” said Romuald D. who wanted to forget this unpleasant story asap, find another job. and “complete these matters.”

“I had to return those phones, but I had gained a gram that day, I was already going to work by bus, but I fell asleep and when I woke up on the bus there were no more phones,” he assured me.
