In the corner of their eyes, Vilnius residents and city guests could see the illuminated Christmas tree near the Cathedral Square for a few minutes.
This is probably not the final image of this year’s Christmas tree. But it seems that the colors of the green scarf will be more than usual this year.
According to passersby, the Christmas tree was lit for about 10 minutes.
The final lighting of the Christmas tree will take place this Saturday, November 28.
“The Christmas capital in 2020 will be different due to the pandemic: fewer gatherings, but more light and decorations throughout the city. The counterweight to the reality that limits everyone will be a great focus on Vilnius decoration, the luminous decorations, the creativity of the communities and original alternative Christmas ideas that are still being born in the last days.
During the first wave of the coronavirus, Vilnius residents showed that they are able to focus on the most difficult moments and activate all their creativity. Christmas in the capital will really be more joyful, closer to home and will offer a variety of alternatives.
Vilnius will announce the start of the winter holiday season on November 28, during the TV3 broadcast, when the main Lithuanian fir will be illuminated on Cathedral Square. Traditionally, the idea of fir decoration will not be revealed until the solemn moment that everyone will see on the screens, in a cozy and safe environment of their home. And on December 5. the second fir tree in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento will shine ”, said the organizers in a statement.
