Perhaps not for mass commerce, but for your own pleasure and interest, bravely. Gėdarė Pažlaikitė-Juknienė from Kėdainiai, who bought a thousand onion bulbs with her husband, has already harvested the first modest crop.

For a test

As Gintarė says, growing saffron is a man’s whim.

“It just came to our attention then. There don’t seem to be farms in Lithuania. Theoretically, our climate is suitable for that, we want to test it in practice.

Of course, saffrons need a lot of care, when they bloom they need to take care of, control and collect saffron guns every day as babies, ”said Gintarė.

Started in october

In early September, the couple planted 200 saffron bulbs near their homes and these flowers began to grow as early as the second half of October. The other bulbs went further, on the cousin’s farm.

“You need red finger guns to choose from.

They need to work every day because they are gradually spreading. There is a lot of work going on all the rings and the result is only a few grams. But it’s yours! 2-3 rings grow from a bulb, ”said Gintarė, who began the first harvesting works in the second half of October.
