During this meeting, the President stressed that the competitiveness of the transport sector and the maintenance of the importance of national security are of special importance to him. During the conversation, they discussed the development of strategic transport infrastructure projects: rail ports, airports, ”said the president’s spokesman, Antanas Bubnelis.

According to him, a lot of attention was also paid to the contribution of transport to the implementation of the Lithuanian green course, which is an extremely important area for the president. There was talk of strengthening public transport in Lithuania and especially in the regions.

“It is very important for the president that the new leadership of the ministry has a lot of leadership and experience in managing change, so if the minister himself lacks that experience in some aspects, (…) it is very important which team he will have. “Bubnel said.

The president’s spokesman regretted that the president had not received a concrete response from the candidate about his team.

“Another issue that was discussed is the clarification of the road paving process. This is also very important to the president, ”said A. Bubnelis.

According to him, the president responded positively to the candidate’s approach on the possibilities of exploitation of new technologies in the transport sector. There was also a convergence of views to make public transportation more available and efficient.

According to the spokesperson, there was also consensus that transportation has a significant impact on the country’s ecosystem, and the candidate would pay close attention to this.

Three identified priorities

The candidate himself highlighted in his speech that, in his opinion, the Ministry of Transport currently lacks a strategic vision of what will happen in ten or twenty years. In his opinion, the delay in preparing the strategy makes investment in this area difficult.

“The three things that I would like to bring to the Ministry of Transport, and the ones that I would present to the President, are the emphasis on the green course and the vision of the Ministry of Transport for the management of transport pollution, the electrification of transport (. ..) and climate change objectives within the Ministry of Transport.

The second thing is that the Ministry of Transport needs a qualitative leap in how we implement projects because sustainable mobility and what we are preparing for the different municipalities is not fully implemented. Often, if we build asphalt somewhere, we forget to walk, ride a bike, use public transport. There should be a significant qualitative leap here. (…)

The third is transparency, openness, technological leadership in terms of how the Ministry of Transport sets priorities, how we decide that there is no resistance in society. (…) My main objective is for us to talk about the criteria, how we choose the roads, the objects we invest in, and not the specific places where someone’s mother lives ”, said K. Adomaitis.

The candidate said he will speak with both party members and professionals in the transport sector about the portfolios of the vice ministers.

“I mentioned several specific candidates (for president – ELTA). There are many ongoing conversations, there are things to choose from and I see this situation very broadly, I understand the need to fill individual areas with competent professionals with knowledge in that field. I speak a lot with fellow players and with people who work in this sector who could and what skills they would bring. The potential team is really very strong, “said K. Adomaitis.

In the Seimas – the first term

37 m. K. Adomaitis, who joined the Seimas with the Freedom Party in the 19th century, received his education at the Riga Graduate School of Economics, then continued his studies at Vilnius University and has a master’s degree.

Since 2011, K. Adomaitis has worked as an urban analyst at Euromonitor International. He is also a member of the Union of Rifles.

The candidate for minister claims to be married with three children.
