S t. Joseph’s nursing home isn’t the only institution with coronavirus patients. The COVID-19 approach is also expanding at Panevėžys Nursing and Supportive Treatment Hospital. There are 5 patients and 11 employees.
Panevėžys St. Patrikas Skrudupis, director of Joseph Care Home, assured the JP news portal that he is doing everything possible to handle the situation in the social institution and ensure that COVID-19 does not spread.
No safe places
S t. P. Skrudupis, the head of Joseph’s nursing home, does not hide the fact that today, as never before, probably in twelve years, working and creating with a wonderful team: St. Joseph’s family in the home that everyone, especially the most vulnerable and those in need of care, would have shelter and security, he did not feel before such helplessness.
“Looking at these days, I can say that it is not possible to create a place where it is completely safe. It can only be partially safe. In life we face situations caused by the flow of life, and one of them is when a virus spreads in a family, in a large community. Dear St. Joseph community members and all of you who respond to our invitations and requests that, with your support or understanding, help our community survive this time. Thank you all, ”writes A. Skrudupis on Facebook.
Thanks to the helpers
The head of the social institution says he confronted the public for help in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We are asking the public for help with measures that are being used a lot during the day and the resources of the institution are rapidly depleting. The strength of the workers is also diminishing. We request both tools (disposable food serving utensils, respirators, disinfectants, disposable surgical caps, disposable gloves, booties, coveralls) and additional helping hands. There is a special shortage of nurses, but we are very aware that the people in this profession are the most important these days, ”said P. Skrudupis and thanked:
“I thank everyone who responded and contributed: they supported Joseph’s nursing home. I am proud of the nursing home staff, the volunteers. Thank you to those who responded and want to help in so many ways. It is the true antidote to any virus.”
S t. P. Skrudupis, the director of Joseph’s nursing home, said he was doing his best to handle the situation at the social institution and ensure that COVID-19 did not spread.
He himself got sick
S t. Orphanage director Joseph is happy with every greeting from the employee, because in the absence of labor, recovered social workers earn the value of gold.
“The social worker has already recovered and has returned to work. Unfortunately, I myself did not prevent the disease and I felt the symptoms of the coronavirus. The test was positive. I am isolated. At first I had a fever and now I do not. I just do not feel the taste no smell yet. A bit of a bothersome cough. I think I’ll be out and back to work soon, “said P. Skudupis.
The elderly are asymptomatic
The patients and staff of the Panevėžys Hospital for Nursing and Supportive Treatment did not escape the cases of coronavirus. The director of the institution Violeta Grigienė said that COVID-19 has 5 patients and 11 employees.
“COVID-19 has reached us. We still stayed, but the virus also spread to us. Now there are five patients and 11 workers out of 136. I cannot blame anyone and say that he brought the virus. It is possible to get so sick from the patient like the nurse. After all, we live in a social environment. The strangest thing is that the elderly woman has no symptoms and the young workers have all the manifestations of COVID-19, “said V. Grigienė.
The important thing is to survive
The hospital director said sick workers were isolated at home.
“Patients diagnosed with coronavirus are isolated in a separate house. We follow all instructions. The most important task is to protect patients and hospital staff. It is important to survive ”, admitted V. Grigienė, director of the Hospital for Nursing and Supportive Treatment.
