On November 3, K. Glaveckas wrote a letter to his fellow party members, a copy of which was also received. Delphi. He said that the leader of the Liberal Movement, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, should not take over as Spokesperson for the Seimas, and should that happen, she should suspend membership in the party, as political power remains without a clear leader.

Dear fellow party members,

Congratulations to all of you for a good performance in the Seimas elections, thanks to your efforts and efforts, the match went very well. At the same time, however, I would like to share with you some of my thoughts, which may be important for the future destiny of the party and the involvement of the Liberal Movement in the formation of the new government.

Although the Conservatives have obviously won the elections, the paradox is that they are not asking for the most important position in the Seimas: the post of president of the Seimas. The idea put forward by one of the elders of the party that this position should belong to the Liberal Movement is actually contrary to logic and political experience, because the spokesman for the small faction is not in a stable position after reminding the former spokespersons V. Muntiana, L. Graužinienė or even his current colleague V. Pranckietis.

If the president of the party, Victoria, was approved as spokesperson for Seimas, she must suspend her membership in the party, cannot belong to a faction and be practically separated from the Liberal Movement: the party remains leaderless. Losing a talented, active, and beautiful party chairman would be the party’s biggest mistake.

Another problem is the successful emergence and design of the Freedom Party in the next election to seize all the votes of the Liberal voters from the Liberal Movement voters. The young people who support this party are in many cases innovative, forward-thinking, knowledgeable about digitization, Fintech and Hitech technologies, so it is natural that their preferred Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the charisma of the Freedom Party and choice.

The economic situation in Europe and Lithuania is becoming tense and the risks to economic growth, inflation, indebtedness and belt tightening are very high, which will require a very high level of political responsibility on the part of those in the power. The government’s fight against the coronavirus and convincing the public of the most appropriate measures will be a great challenge in view of what is happening in the neighboring countries of the EU. Therefore, participation in the ruling majority must be weighed well with the responsibilities (ministries) that we must assume and move forward.

Therefore, my proposals in the negotiations on the ruling coalition and the program of the Liberal Movement would be:

1. Resign the position of Spokesperson of the Seimas and agree to the position of First Vice President of the Seimas (candidacy – Spokesperson of the Viktorija Party). Support the candidacy of the conservative president G. Landsbergis, who won the elections, as president of the Seimas by strengthening his positions in the negotiations on the ministries;

2. Seek leadership in 3 ministries: Economy and Innovation, Environment and Interior. Because these ministries need to fight to the last drop considering that a coalition is a marriage in which interests trump love, this has always been the case and will continue to be the case in the future.

I think many of us think similarly, but we have not yet managed to put it into words …

Decisions are reckless

Delphi on Monday, K. Glaveck explained why he decided to write this letter to party representatives. According to him, it is not prudent for a faction with just over 10 seats in the Seimas to occupy the post of head of the Seimas.

“I think it was much better in the interests of the party, with a relatively innumerable majority, to assume the position of president of the Seimas, one of the three most important in the state, knowing that the rulers are conservative.

And then it stays there, very high, but more difficult to contact with the bottom. As if he could make a phone call, he can sometimes attend the meeting, but usually the influence of the party chairman is greatly reduced. ” Delphi Glaveck explained.

He said that resigning from ministerial portfolios due to the position of president of Seimas is not beneficial for the party.

“I do not believe so much (the negotiations were successful, aut. Past). It is not always better to hold on to the first hook; the party not only shares today’s catch, I will say more or less. But you have to look to the future, and now it is not prudent ”, assured the parliamentarian.

The interlocutor explained that in the history of the Seimas there have already been cases in which a party with few seats in parliament is also appointed to the position of Spokesperson of the Seimas.

“This is also Loreta Graužinienė, Viktoras Muntianas, Viktoras Pranckietis. When he doesn’t play any political role, he just thinks about how to look more handsome. But politics is measured not only by beauty, but also by the ability to organize a political force, one’s political party, to work in those directions and with the voters who have believed. Liberals always care about young people, and taking those areas that are almost unrelated to youth, leaving the areas of economics and innovation to competitors, is what will carry young people forward in the next ten years. It will also depend on the next elections, “he said. .

Speaking of the Freedom Party, which participated for the first time in the Seimas elections, the politician said that after this legislature the party will be mature.

“In my opinion, this is not the best for the Liberal Movement. It is quite risky to leave a party in this state. (…) As young people are used to living and having now, they have little response to advice,” explained Glaveck.

He said he had not received any comments. After leaving the faction, according to K. Glaveckas, he will also leave the party.

“Young people should be at this party. As we behave, we will also do it. And they will be completely diedukai liberals, or agroliberals; it is not possible to do it,” politicians valued the situation of the Liberal Movement.

It will have less impact

Kęstutis Girnius, associate professor and political scientist at the Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science (VU TSPMI), said the negotiations could have been better for the Liberal Movement.

“The president of Seimas has a prestigious position: he has an important role in setting the agenda. But when you are a small partner, the conservatives will say a more fateful word. V. Čmilytė-Nielsen will be the third man in the country, but the real power is quite limited. And if this required a change of ministry, I don’t think it would be of much help. I could try to fight for the Ministry of Transport. And now there are two ministries and a representative position. Delphi said K. Girnius.

In the eyes of the political scientist, the Union of Lithuanian Christian Democrats-Union of the Fatherland (TS-LKD), which won the elections and handed over to the Liberal Movement, was generous.

“And the majority of the deputies will continue to be conservative, it will be decided jointly what to do,” said the interlocutor. And he added that the Union of the Homeland, which did not claim the position of Spokesperson for Seimas, “does not lose much.”

The political scientist of the VU TSPMI said that one of the ministries received by the Liberal Movement was of little importance.

“And the Liberal Movement, with only two ministries, has much less influence than it could have had under other circumstances. (…) The Liberals received a more significant ministry, the Environment. And the Ministry of Culture, for bodybuilders. It may not be pleasant to say, but it is the least significant, ”explained K. Girnius.

The political scientist said that the visibility of V. Čmilytė-Nielsen could help the party.

“She will be seen daily, just like the prime minister, the president. (…) People know what party they belong to, the party gets publicity. That publicity is beneficial, especially for a small party. But the ministry would have been a little more important. ” Delphi said K. Girnius.

Explained the reasons
