Ramūnas Karbauskis, president of the Union of Peasants and Greens, declared that members of the LVŽS faction would vote “against” or abstain from the candidacy of I. Šimonytė.
“It just came to our attention then. Looking at the list of candidates for members of the Government, listening to what is said about valuables, we will not be able to support I. Šimonytė,” the politician told reporters before the Seimas sitting on Tuesday.
Says it won’t interfere
He explained that the list of candidates for ministers presented by I. Šimonytė was weak and predicted that the future government would withdraw some initiatives from LVŽS.
Seimas Comments:
He will not reveal how Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis will vote for the interim position.
“We will not prevent the ruling coalition from asserting its prime minister,” said a member of the Peasant Group.
Vigilijus Jukna, the eldest of the Labor Party faction in the Seimas, assured that the faction members would abstain when voting for I. Šimonytė.
“The Labor Party is working in the opposition, we respect the will of the electorate, so we will not hinder the formation of the Government. But I want to emphasize that the Labor Party is an opposition party, so we will abstain, “he told reporters.
The politician explained that the “workers” work program is “more aggressive, perhaps deeper.”
“He would like to see more provisions of our program in the future program of the Government. Unfortunately, we do not even see any draft today,” he said.
It is true that V. Jukna added that the “workers” will support some of the majority proposals in the future, if they are in line with the party’s program.
Algirdas Sysas, a representative of the LSDP, stated that the faction would abstain from voting for I. Šimonytė, some members may not participate in the vote. This was confirmed to BNS.
I. Šimonytė: as it will be, so it will be
I. Šimonytė did not dramatize the situation that rulers may not have enough votes to approve their candidacy.
“It just came to our knowledge then. I don’t understand, do you need any drama here? Should I cry now, cry? Everyone votes according to their beliefs or the beliefs of the eldest of their faction and, so to speak, they will,” he said to reporters at the Seimas on Tuesday.
I do not understand, here is the need for a drama of some kind, I cry now, sad?
Before considering her candidacy, I. Šimonytė assured that she had spoken with all the factions that saw the need to meet with her. Some members of political groups, who have known her personally for many years, may, according to politicians, express a position different from the generally accepted one.
“But if the faction agrees on any position, it is such a policy, there is no need to look for anything here,” added I. Šimonytė.
The policy did not reveal whether he would agree to his candidacy a second time if it is not approved this time: “We will get the vote first and then all comments will be after the vote.”
Part of the Seimas rulers had to isolate themselves due to COVID-19; the conservative Kęstutis Masiulis previously stated that there were fifteen of them. Therefore, the rulers may lack votes to approve the candidacy of I. Šimonytė.
The decision on the matter will be taken by simple majority in open voting.
Currently, the ruling majority includes 73 of the 141 MPs.
