Such a proposal for amendments to the Statute was registered by the leader of the faction of the Social Democratic Party of Seimas Algirdas Sysas.
According to the draft, “the president of the Budget and Finance Committee will have two vice-presidents, one of whom will be chosen from among the opposition groups.”
The Seimas Budget and Finance Committee is chaired by Conservative Seimas member Mykolas Majauskas. This committee does not yet have vice chairs.
The proposal by A. Sysas is directed to the improved draft of amendments to the Bylaws registered last week by the First Vice President of the Seimas Jurgis Razma, which proposes to establish the election of representatives of the members of the opposition of the Seimas as Chairman of the Audit Committee and President of the Seimas Anticorruption Commission.
At present, the Statute of the Seimas establishes that a representative of an opposition faction or a coalition of factions with more than half of the members of the Seimas belonging to a minority of the Seimas will be elected Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee and the Audit Committee. The chairman of the Committee on Budgets and Finance has two vice-chairs.
