Blinken, 58, served as undersecretary of state in President Barack Obama’s administration and is a longtime Biden aide.
Bloomberg and The New York Times have announced that Biden intends to appoint Blinken to head the State Department. The president-elect is expected to announce the candidacies of the members of his new administration on Tuesday.
If approved by the Senate, Blinken would replace Mike Pompeo, whose priorities included a policy of confrontation with China and stopping Iran.
The appointment of Blinken as chief of diplomacy could also help reassure America’s traditional allies, whom Trump ignored and sometimes insulted.
