Latest Xbox Review: What Makes These Game Consoles Amazing? | Lifetime

packaging

The manufacturer highlights the differences between the Microsoft console models from the package. Significantly smaller, 2-pound white S Series, and more than twice the size, over 4 pounds, of the X Series.

However, without the console package itself, the content of the consoles varies minimally. Both versions have: wireless remote control, power cable and video signal cable – HDMI. The latter will be different, as the more powerful X Series console will support 8K resolution, so the included cable is not simple HDMI, but Ultra High Speed technology.

In theory, the weaker S Series model could also give 8K resolution. However, as Microsoft suggests, without the appropriate cable this is not recommended due to limited technical capabilities.

In black and white

On the exterior of the consoles themselves, we see a contrasting color difference. The Black Series X is twice the size thanks to superior cooling and the integrated disc reader. The S Series, meanwhile, looks much more compact, white, with a round black grille on the side, but no openings for round discs. Therefore, the S Series could be called a “digital console” because it can only record games by downloading them online.

The input / output jacks must be taken into account. Surprisingly, they are identical on these consoles: three 10Gbps USB 3.1 interface slots, two on the back and one on the front. The aforementioned HDMI, which is a 2.1 generation, RJ-45 internet connection and something more interesting: the Storage Expansion socket. This special slot is for 1TB expansion drives released in partnership with Seagate and Microsoft. You can buy them separately if you run out of space on consoles with capacities of 512GB (S Series) and 1000GB (X Series), respectively.

Which one promises 8K resolution?

The technical parameters of the consoles will vary almost as much as the size of the packages. Although we start with the similarities that both use AMD Zen 2, 8-core processors, video cards, although also from AMD, are radically different.

The dark X series has a graphics card capable of 12 TeraFlops computing capabilities, while the modest S Series has only a small fraction of those 4 TeraFlops. The graphics card computing units (CU) in these consoles also differ nearly 3 times, with the X Series at 52 and the S Series at 20. Where the differences are smoothed out is in the RAM section. The X Series has 16GB specifically for gaming PCs, while the S Series uses an unusual 10GB.

So the answer to which console will be able to take advantage of the 8K resolution is quite clear. The X Series also boasts 4K 120 frames per second, but it will depend more on the manufacturers of the game and the refresh rate of your TV.

The small S Series console also has this magical number 120 in the package, but the principle is also a small star with the passage that it will only be realistic with the corresponding games. I would really recommend planning to use an X Series console with 4K 60fps and an S Series with a lower 1440P 60fps.

New remote control

The last thing that I would like to highlight separately, as it may be relevant not only for console enthusiasts but also for computer gamers, is the new Xbox console. Personally, I used both the Xbox 360 and the newer Xbox One remote on my computer, so I can tell you right away that this one has been updated.

The first difference I noticed was that it was slightly smaller. What dimensions, I will not say, but after moving from the old One S, something in this new gluttony hand is more comfortable and not so wide.

The other thing I noticed was the little sticky texture on the sides of the remote and the so-called “trigger” buttons. It will definitely help you keep the remote better.

And the biggest difference is the replacement of the D-Pad button, which was usually shaped like an arrow, and in this model combined in a single button. However, Xbox boasts that such a “connection” will make it easier to separate clicks from the D-Pad. I will disappoint those who innovate that the Xbox still sticks with the use of replaceable batteries.
