Three modes of operation
The MINI Vision Urbanaut concept is based on the fact that in the future, the Mini will not only be the car we drive, it can also become a destination in its own right. That is why the MINI Vision Urbanaut has three modes of operation or usage scenarios, which the developers named “MINI Moments”. These are the “Wanderlust”, “Chill” and “Vibe” modes.
Wanderlust is a driving mode, and this concept car can be operated autonomously or by the driver. Upon arrival, the Relax mode can be activated, it transforms the car into a separate private space, a room where you can relax and enjoy your stay here and now. Or work. And Vibe mode is designed to bring people together and allow them to communicate comfortably and comfortably.
“The Mini has always strived to use space wisely. With the MINI Vision Urbanaut, we are expanding private space to the public, creating a completely new experience,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Design Director.

The car becomes an open room
When arriving at a certain place “MINI Vision Urbanaut” can be transformed into a … room in a few easy steps. The driver’s instrument panel lowers, the front seats rotate and a comfortable sofa is formed here. In the same way, the seats in the back of the car can be transformed and create a comfortable space to sit. There is an empty space for action between the front and rear of the car, and a table is designed to the side.
In addition, this space can be expanded and converted into a cozy semi-open terrace with large side sliding doors, and the front window can be opened from below, turning the front of the car into a kind of balcony.
The designers came up with such unusual solutions for the car, because the MINI Vision Urbanaut created the reverse: first it designed the interior of the car, and only then adopted the exterior concepts of the car. optimized certain solutions, which gave the car an unusually tall Mini, but a length of only 4.46 meters. Nonetheless, the designers accommodated here an unusually large space that is exploited in a new but unusual way on travel.
Inside, recycled materials, chrome finish or abandoned leather are used. The main material used is knitted fabric, which provides warmth, comfort and softness. Cork is also used on the steering wheel and the floor, which due to its naturalness also provides comfort.
Digital solutions have helped designers create and adapt minimalism, making it possible to dispense with multiple buttons. And the digital control panel, when transformed into a recreation mode, moves into the middle of the space and is easily accessible to all. An attractive space will help create and change LED lighting.

Unusual on the outside too
The designers also added a radically new look to the exterior of the conceptual MINI Vision Urbanaut. It became monolithic, with refined details. To preserve the distinctive compact look of the Mini, the designers designed the car’s wheels as close to the front and rear as possible. From the outside, the MINI Vision Urbanaut even looks a bit like a skateboard.
Exclusive and the front of the car: the lights are only visible when they are on. They are multi-colored, they can glow in different colors and thus create a cozy atmosphere in Vibe mode.
The front grill of the car took on a hexagonal shape. Because the electric motor doesn’t need to cool down, the front grille has gotten smart – built-in technology controls the autonomous steering functions.
At the rear of the car, the headlights are hidden under a milled aluminum plate. They can also glow in different colors and reflect different car modes. The shape of the rear window is hexagonal, as is the front grille, and the convex body elements used are a tribute to previous and legendary Mini models.
The distinctive color of the MINI Vision Urbanaut is also provided by the transitional body paint, but it is not just a design element, it also provides additional privacy when you are inside, while preserving natural light.
