“The Commission has decided not to reopen the investigation into the behavior of S. Skvernelis,” COEC spokesman Eglė Ivanauskaitė informed BNS.
E. Ivanauskaitė stated that the material collected in recent weeks did not reveal data on specific official actions of the Prime Minister in a conflict of interest situation, which could be considered as a new circumstance.
He also pointed out that one of the directions of the investigation could not be renewed due to the new wording of the Law on Reconciliation of Public and Private Interests, which came into force in January.
“In the second case, the commission investigated whether (…) S. Skvernelis did not use his duties, powers and name to influence the decision of other people, which would cause him a conflict of interest. In June, the investigation was terminated in that part due to the entry into force on January 1 of a new version that no longer had a prohibition on public officials from exercising their functions, powers and name to influence a conflict decision interest and now reopen the investigation in this part. It is not, ”said a representative of the COEC.
He also noted that the decision not to reopen the investigation does not prevent it from doing so in the future if the commission receives specific factual data, the statute of limitations is three years.
In October, Agnė Bilotaitė, vice president of the conservative opposition faction, asked the COEC to resume the investigation.
Even before the Seimas elections, the Prime Minister’s wife, Silvija Skvernel pidió, asked the Upės Street community of Vilnius district to vote for Interior Minister R. Tamašūnienė in a closed Facebook group for his efforts to pave the way. highway.
A copy of the record of the Prime Minister’s spouse was spread on social media.
Tomas Beržinskas, spokesman for Prime Minister S. Skvernelis, did not deny the authenticity of the recording and called it a personal statement.
As can be seen from the copy of the minutes, S. Skvernelė asked to vote for R. Tamašunienė in the single-member constituency, because “this is a person who constantly reminded the employees of the Vilnius district municipality of the problems of our road.”
S. Skvernelis was criticized by the opposition when the section of Upės Street leading to his house was paved with money allocated by the Government.
The COEC announced in June this year that it had no data to suggest that the prime minister could have confused public and private interests because government documents did not mention a specific street.
S. Skvernelis always claimed that he did not influence the decision of the Vilnius District Municipality to allocate funds for the paving of Upės Street.
In 2016, R. Tamašunienė was elected to the Seimas in the single-member constituency of Nemenčinč, where she was also elected in this year’s parliamentary elections.
In early October, the minister explained that she had known about the asphalt problem on Up problemas Street for eight years;
At the time, Vitalijus Andrejevas, former head of the Lithuanian Highway Administration, stated that the minister had not discussed it with the Directorate.
