Degrees “Žalgiris”: the best game of captain and the irreplaceable M.Grigonis

Kaunas “Žalgiris” started the EuroLeague double week with a 78:87 loss at home to CSKA Moscow basketball players. The people of Žalgiris, who had fought admirably, managed to maintain the intrigue until the end of the match, but in the decisive minutes, the guests from Russia looked more solid.

The Krepsinis.net portal reviewed the individual performance of Kaunas residents and rated it with ratings.

Walkupas
Walkupas

# 0 Thomas Walkup (29 min, 10 points, 2 reps, 7 reps, 2 reps, 5pm, 13 helpful votes). Rating – 7.

The meeting was started by Th.Walkup by mistake and they accompanied the American throughout the meeting. Until then, the player, who stroked the ball quite successfully, made 5 mistakes this time (most of the season). However, his leadership in the team’s game was certainly not poor. “Žalgiris” attacked opponents well in “2v2” situations and Th.Walkupas successfully helped the ball to team friends and completed the attacks after dribbling. Nor should there be any major reproaches for this basketball player on defense. Even if the match was lost to opponents, the CSKA players simply won it because of their high dominance, not because of the player “Žalgiris”.

# 4 Lukas Lekavičius (11 min., 4 points, 2 res., 8 points). Rating – 5.

The defender played little in this game, but managed to play a good stretch in attack in the third half. It was during this time that L. Lekavičius won all 4 points. The main reason this basketball player played so little was his problems on defense. CSKA is very talented on the perimeter and “Žalgiris” could not hide his player’s problems on defense.

# 10 Nigel Hayes (27 min, 6 pts, 3 attempts, 1 retc., 1 comp., 7 helpful votes). Rating – 6.

The American had a successful stretch of just over half a minute in attack in the second half. It was in such a short time that N. Hayes made two long pitches and this contributed significantly to the fact that “Žalgiris” was in a very bad mood during the break. Later, Hayes was completely invisible in the attack, and it was difficult for him to defend himself from both Will Clyburn and other rivals. At the “fourth number” position, he lacked the physical strength to withstand the contact offered by players like Tornike Shengelia, and on the perimeter there were problems catching sudden “third numbers” from opponents.

Jankūnas, Lauvergne
Jankūnas, Lauvergne

# 13 Paulius Jankūnas (20 min., 2 points, 6 reps, 1 res., 2 reps, 10 points). Rating – 8.

After this game, you can also praise P. Jankūnas for the game shown and Martin Schiller for allowing this basketball player to be the starting five. CSKA immediately tried to attack “Žalgiris” at the “fourth number” position, but P.Jankūnas, although difficult, did not allow T.Shengeliai to pick points. Subsequently, the captain showed a very solid game closer to the basket and fought perfectly for the bounced balls, and in a couple of situations he even forced the rivals to make a mistake. Although P. Jankūnas could not offer much in attack, at an important moment in the fourth quarter he caused the opponent’s foul and made two important free throws. The veteran, who is currently receiving much criticism, has shown that his experience and combativeness can still bring many benefits to the team.

# 21 Artūras Milaknis (17 min., 5 points, 4 rebounds, 8 points). Rating – 7.

It was very interesting to watch how A. Milaknis will handle his defense with W. Clyburn. Admittedly, it was Žalgiris’s sniper who defended himself quite well in the first minutes. Although this opponent later racked up his own points, there were other opponents before him. Milaknis didn’t get many chances in attack, but he hit one of two of three, and in the fourth quarter he added a two-point shot at an important moment. “Žalgiris” doesn’t have as many combinations for A. Milaknis this season, so it’s only natural that the number of his shots has decreased.

# 23 Martin Geben (9 min., 5 points, 3 rebounds, 13 h, 2 pts). Rating – 4.

Geben, who had come up from the subsidiary bench, had a hard time getting into the game and initially stood out only with steps and problems in defense. Later, Th.Walkup managed to play with this midfielder a couple of times Pikenrolusand M. Geben made good use of his opportunities. His minutes in the square were also limited by fouls, which were sometimes picked up in completely unnecessary places.

# 24 Augustine Rubit (11 min., 9 pts, 1 p. M., 4 pts). Rating – 6.

A. Rubitas had the same problem as M. Geben: fouls. In just 11 minutes, the American managed to commit four times. It is true that those fouls were often the credit of CSKA’s clever play. The Russian club made good use of Milutinov closer to the basket and A. Rubitas could not defend himself from this center without breaking the rules. In attack, the Žalgiris striker was once again very effective. Jo Pikenpopai have become one of the funniest aspects of the game “Žalgiris”. At the end of the game, it was through Rubit that Mike James scored one of the most important triples, but there should be no major reproaches for the center for this episode.

Jokubaitis
Jokubaitis

# 31 Rokas Jokubaitis (21 min., 8 points, 5 res., 4 points, 7 points). Rating – 6.

The defender started the game very badly. As soon as he appeared on the field, he broke the rules by attacking, made another mistake passing the ball, and was unable to defend Darrun Hilliard on his defense. However, in the second half of the match, after escaping a quick attack once, it was not possible to finish it off with a putt, but R. Jokubaitis can be said to have recovered. At the end of the last quarter, the player played two attacks in a row with great courage and scored 4 points in the opponents’ basket. It is a pity that such courage was lacking during the last minute of the match, when “Žalgiris” was 4 points behind.

# 32 Steve Vasturia (13 minutes, 2 pts, -2 points). Rating – 3.

S.Vasturia did not stand out too much in this match. On defense, even though the basketball player made mistakes, he was able to fouls correctly several times and at least stop opponents in this way. In attack, he didn’t have a more realistic chance to score, but he once played hard and caused the opponent’s foul. An American can bring energy and make successful short passes, but for now at least, it’s hard to entrust him with a bigger role on the field.

Grigonis
Grigonis

# 40 Marius Grigonis (23 min, 19 points, 4 reps, 2 reps, 1 reps, 2 pts, 24 helpful votes). Rating – 9.

The leader of “Žalgiris” does not receive the top ten in this match for only one reason: accumulated fouls. In the third quarter, M. Grigonis “retired” from the match for the fourth time and did so in a completely unnecessary place. Even last season, there were also some games in which the defender’s minutes were limited by the accumulation of fouls. However, M. Grigonis played amazingly and was the brightest figure in the Kaunas game. Five six-shot long shots often forced Dimitri Itoudi to simply grab his head and stomp along the touchline. The leader of “Žalgiris” has become an elite player who can play “one on one” even against basketball players from the best teams.

# 77 Joffrey Lauvergne (19 min, 8 pts, 4 rebounds, 1 res., 1 pp., 1 pp., 7 pts). Rating – 6.

In the last quarter, the Frenchman looked very pale. In the attack, he could barely do anything. Send, and in defense he was often defeated “one by one” by N. Milutinov. Although J. Lauvergne was fouled once during the deciding quarter, he was able to play effectively and work well on defense. The high did not allow opponents to create a second chance and reliably fought for the balls, once granting D. Hilliard a block.
