The new president of Seimas has recently had to deal with personal life concerns. Since Friday, she has been accompanied by a squad of guards who transport her everywhere and in a limousine. As a result, you will have to change apartments at the Seimas Hotel.
The Seimas Speaker apartment is bigger than the others, 4 rooms, 126 square meters. Next to it is a room for the security guard who accompanies the president. And although Čmilytė-Nielsen has not yet settled on it, the Seimas Chancellery does not show it to journalists. Viktoras Pranckietis lived there too, but he had decided to drive to the house in the Kaunas district, about a hundred kilometers from the Seimas, every night.
Čmilytė-Nielsen House is located in Šiauliai, more than 200 kilometers from Vilnius. However, he says that Victor Francis’ practice will not be repeated and he will not instruct the protection to transport him hundreds of kilometers every day.
“It’s basically the same pace as before, but of course I’ll be back with my family on the weekends. I only plan on weekends, at least in the first half. Later, I plan to bring the family to Vilnius, ”says V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
Former Seimas spokesman Arūnas Valinskas says the hardest thing is getting used to the protection that follows constantly, in the first weeks.
“Two weeks until you get used to it, and then everything is at home. It is a new experience for Victoria in this place, but you will have to get used to it. It is part of the duty to obey the instructions of the SAD staff, who guarantee the safety of the Speaker of the Seimas, not Viktorija Čmilytė, not Viktoras Pranckietis, ”said former Speaker of the Seimas Arūnas Valinskas.
It is true that he did not have to live in the Seimas Hotel; Having a house in Vilnius, he decided to install a security post next door.
“Until they brought the mail, they lived with us at home. I personally asked the head of the department to allow it, because it is strictly prohibited ”, says A. Valinskas.
However, it is not clear whether the president of Seimas will accommodate the family in an apartment at the Seimas hotel, as the rulers are considering privatizing this building in the center of the capital.
“In general, the coalition was in favor of moving towards a hotel exemption with a cash payment, but of course not so fast, because the draft budget for next year generally does not fit,” says Razma.
The Security Guard Service, which protects the country’s leaders, will soon have to solve another puzzle: how to ensure the protection of future Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė. You have already said that you would like to stay at your home, but it is unclear if there will be space for a security post. If this fails, Šimonyte will probably have to move to Turniškės.
Riddles about vice presidents
There is still a temporary inscription on the door of the Speaker of the Seimas with the name of Čmilytė-Nielsen, but the new Speaker of the Seimas has to solve puzzles that will accompany the entire period. The largest opposition faction, the peasants, proposes to delegate to Aušrinė Norkienė, but Čmilytė-Nielsen proposes to find another candidate.
“I am speaking to all factions and I think there is a risk that this candidate will not receive enough support,” said Seimas president Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

“They say the only problem with Aušrinė Norkienė is that he is loyal to the party. Now it would turn out that another candidate who suited them should be disloyal to the party. That is what they insult Rima Baškienė. Instead, the faction has decided that if Norkienė is not. vote, no other candidate will vote, we understand that ”, says Ramūnas Karbauskis, the peasant president.
Karbauskis does not find it acceptable to have his representative on the parliamentary board as the leader of the opposition.
“The leader of the opposition does not belong to us in terms of the number of votes. We are missing 2 votes. If we form a coalition and a leader of the Seimas opposition appears, it means that we will not have him for a certain period of time, because he will be rotated. This is the place where the largest faction of the opposition should not be on the human board for some time, ”says R. Karbauskis.
It seems that it is not so easy for the opposition to join forces. Karbauskis is not clear on which side the workers are on, because the Labor Party has kindly accepted the proposal of the ruler to elect Andrius Mazuronis as president of the Seimas.
You can try talking to the Social Democrats, but they have their own concerns. Following the election of Algirdas Sysas as senior of the faction, it was said that President Gintautas Paluckas would be nominated for the vice presidents of the Seimas. Today, however, it became clear that Paluck was retreating from the battle without a fight.
“Mr. Paluck decided to go, well, after calculating and gathering intelligence that might not have the support he needed. This is the right step for anyone to take risks and lose again,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
After the approval of 2 vice presidents on Friday, the conservative Jurgis Razmas and Andrius Mazuronis of Lithuania, 4 vice presidents vacancies remain. They are scheduled to be completed on Tuesday. The Conservatives have 2 seats, but the governors do not reveal the names of the candidates. A seat was reserved for the Freedom Party, she decided to provide Vytautas Mitalas. There remains a place for the opposition, which is being fought by the Socdem and the peasants.
Without the latter changing Norkienė’s candidacy, the Social Democrats offer Julius Sabatauskas in place of the retired Paluck. The Conservatives do not reveal either the possible vice presidents or the possible ministers of the new government. Although it is understandable that Ingrida Šimonytė is already awaiting a verdict on the president’s ministers.
“Between the 3 parties, we are already located in the areas of responsibility, tentatively, the negotiations have been completed, so now we are awaiting the response of the presidency”, says V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
The presidency has so far announced that it intends to nominate Ingrida Šimonytė for the post of prime minister on Thursday. Under the current agreement, the Conservatives will also have 9 ministries. The portfolios of 3 ministers will be delivered to the Freedom Party and the Liberal Movement to 2.
“I do not know the names of the ministers, only the candidate for prime minister, perhaps the president of the party, knows them, we only respect what Ingrida Šimonytė said, not to publish those names”, says the vice president of the Seimas, the conservative Jurgis Razma .
Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen has yet to publish surnames and other agreements.
