On Sunday, border guards from the Bardinai Border Guard of the Pagėgiai Border Team of the SBGS served at the Panemunė checkpoint. It is located in the municipality of Pagėgiai.
SBGS officials noticed an object floating in the Nemunas, which runs along the border with Russia. Shortly after surveying the banks of the Nemunas, border guards found two floating boxes in its bushes. They were wrapped in polyethylene and very similar to those contained in contraband cigarettes.
It turns out this time it was smuggled drugs: hundreds of full boxes, bottles, jars, various packages. They carry the Russian names Kombilepin, Amoksicillin, Sintomicin, Ortofen, Nitrofungin, Indomethacin, Taurin, Kameton, Cisnokobalamin, Metrogil and Festal.
The same shipment that arrived at the Nemunas also contained over 1,300 empty packages bearing the Russian names “Pankretin”, “Festal”, “Tetracycline”, “Erinit”, “Asparkam”, “Vinpocetin”, “Erythromycin” and “Amoxicillin”.
It is believed that the traffickers could have planned to fill these empty packages in Lithuania when the contents of such boxes brought from the Kaliningrad region would have arrived by other means. After all, going through a checkpoint and trying to illegally transport a slightly larger quantity of medicine, the packaging takes up a lot of space, making it inconvenient for violators.
Medicines and empty containers are stored at the Bardinai border barrier. The incident is under investigation.
