This was announced in the Seimas on Friday by Guoda Burokienė, an elderly deputy of the Peasant Group, Algirdas Sysas, an elder of the Social Democratic Party, and Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė, an elderly deputy of the Labor Party.

The eldest of the “Peasants” faction is Ramūnas Karbauskis, his alternates are Jonas Jarutis and Guoda Burokienė.

The eldest of the faction of the Social Democratic Party is Algirdas Sysas, his alternate is Orinta Leiputė.

Member of Seimas Vigilijus Jukna was elected the eldest of the Labor Party faction. His alternate is a member of the Seimas Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė.

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the head of the Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD), plans to lead a parliamentary faction and says he will not be a member of the government “at the same time.”

Ieva Pakarklytė was elected Major of the Freedom Faction, and Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius was elected deputy.

The Statute of the Seimas establishes that the factions of the members of the Seimas or their coalitions that do not agree with the Government’s program can declare themselves in opposition.

The opposition factions are those factions or their coalitions whose political statements issued in the Seimas establish the provisions that distinguish them from the majority of the Seimas.

The opposition factions and coalitions are guaranteed all the rights of the factions and coalitions provided for in the Statute of the Seimas. These rights cannot be restricted under any pretext.

If an opposition faction or its coalition has more than half of the Seimas members belonging to a minority of the Seimas, the largest of that faction or the leader of the coalition is called the leader of the Seimas opposition.
