It was first announced by German retailer Lidl, which announced that it would not operate for the fourth year in a row during the major holidays of the year: St. Christmas Day, December 25, and New Years Day, January 1.

On Friday, the retail chain Rimi issued a press release announcing that it will extend the opening hours of some stores in the last days of this year. Rimi stores will be open longer than last year and will welcome customers on the first day of the New Year on December 31 and earlier. As in previous years, not all Rimi stores will be open on the first day of Christmas.
