According to Renaldas Radvila, director of the Department of Services of Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO), inquiries about the procedure to declare electricity readings and payment of bills after the change of supplier are among the most frequent questions received by specialists from the company.
“The most important thing for electricity consumers to know is that the general order will not change. By concluding a contract with a new supplier, it will be possible to declare electricity consumption or pay for services in the same way as before, only in another environment : on the new provider’s website or other platforms created by him, or at physical service points ”, says R. Radvila.
Both the payment of invoices and the statement of readings will be carried over to the provider’s platforms, and the functionality of the services, the ability to pay directly on the website online or in other popular ways, will also depend on the infrastructure created by the provider. R. Radvila points out that in each case the methods for declaring electricity readings and paying for services must be discussed in the contract entered into with the supplier.
“If the signing of a contract with a new supplier still does not provide a solution for the declaration of consumer data, any resident will still be able to do so on the ESO self-service website and we will pass this data directly to the supplier,” says the Director of ESO service.
A contract, an account
After choosing a new provider, residents will continue to have a single contract and will continue to pay for electric service with their new provider on a monthly basis. According to R. Radvila, customers only have to choose the offer of the company that offers the most suitable electricity supply services for them, enter into a contract with it and the worries will end in this place.
“After signing the new contract, the old one will be automatically terminated and all other processes will be taken care of by the supplier together with ESO. Therefore, the most important task for the neighbors is to take an active interest in the changes and choose the most acceptable conditions for the electricity supply service ”, emphasizes R. Radvila.
By changing the electricity supplier, consumers will also not need to install any additional infrastructure – cables, meters, etc. ESO will continue to own the power cables for the electricity meters, as well as the electricity metering devices themselves, providing access to their equipment to all suppliers.
According to R. Radvila, this procedure also means that even in multi-apartment houses, each apartment owner can choose the most suitable provider for him. It is quite possible that all residents of an apartment building receive electricity from different providers, as each consumer will choose them individually, according to their personal needs.
The provider is chosen by the most consumer
Lithuania’s household consumers will choose an independent electricity supplier in three stages until the end of 2022. Currently, the first stage comprises the installations that consume the most energy, that is, those that pay more than € 60 per month or consume more than 420 kWh a month. Consumers in the first stage must choose the most suitable electricity supplier and sign a new supply contract before December 10 of this year.
The rejection of the services of the public provider is a decision of the state to systematically abolish the monopoly conditions in the market for supplying electricity to domestic consumers. The state will continue to regulate only some components of the price: for transmission, distribution and services of public interest. The prices of purchase and supply of electricity will be determined by competition between suppliers and the price on the stock market.
Temporary guaranteed electricity supply will be provided to residents who have not chosen a provider on time.
