Telia announced this at a press conference on Tuesday.
“In 2018, we were one of the first in Europe to test 5G technology on a real network in Vilnius. Today, the 5G connection in Lithuania is taking the second step: we are connecting 13 base stations, which will allow people and companies to evaluate the most important advantages of 5G and, first of all, the impressive speed of mobile Internet, ”he cited Danas Strömbergas, CEO of Telia, in the press release.
Currently, the stations are located in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
“5G will be available for use with some phone models that support this connection. They are available for purchase. And if your phone supports 5G, then you will have to find the place where the 5G connection is captured, ”says Andrius Šemeškevičius, Telia’s CTO.
In other words, Telia is available in designated 5G areas today for customers who have an unlimited mobile data plan and Sony, OnePlus, Huawei or Xiaomi smartphones or routers that support 5G technology. Other smart device manufacturers should approve their 5G phones in Lithuania in the near future.
All customers who have 5G-enabled devices in Lithuania, but do not have an unlimited data plan, can register on Telia’s website at the end of November and test unlimited 5G data by the end of this year at no additional charge, according to the report. .
Telia will start to provide commercial next-generation 5G mobile communications services in Lithuania after the 5G radio frequency auction. It is expected to be as soon as next year.
A. Šemeškevičius says that the 5G connection will be tested not only by customers, but also by Telia itself.
“Two years ago we ran the first 5G connection tests on a real network, but at that time there were practically no devices on the market that would have allowed us to use it. Now the situation has changed dramatically and today, thousands of customers can have 5G phones and routers, and businesses can be another tool for innovation. Therefore, before buying frequencies, it is very important for us to test the operation of the equipment under various conditions, telephone and network configuration, data usage needs, ”says A. Šemeškevičius.
Initial tests show that the actual speed of mobile data downloads on the 5G network is up to 1.9 Gb / s, the transmission speed is up to 200 Mb / s, and the delay is up to 10 milliseconds, according to the report. .
