There is no waiting for the last day. Independent experts advise carefully reviewing and comparing offers from different providers before choosing, as they may not only differ in the price of services.
“Residents should simply go to selected vendors for individual offers. Like choosing a mobile phone provider. Once the most attractive offer has been selected, the supplier who submitted it will be invited to sign a contract. Residents no longer have to worry about anything, ”says Tomas Kavaliauskas, spokesperson for Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius AB (ESO).
Naturally, the most important of these steps is a careful comparison of offers and the selection of the best one. According to Tomas Janeliūnas, Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University and Director of the Institute for Energy Research, when evaluating the price, it is important to note that suppliers are looking for various ways to present the most exclusive offers possible.
“It is easier to compare the rates of two time zones: day and night. However, in the proposals, the neighbors will undoubtedly find different solutions that are more difficult to compare with each other. For example, some providers may apply discounts when choosing a long-term fixed price contract or some special rate ”, says the expert.
However, according to T. Janeliūnas, extremely large price differences should not be expected.
“It is necessary to know that more than half of the total rate will be the same electricity distribution price for all suppliers. Furthermore, they all depend on the level of prices available on energy exchanges.
Our calculations showed that the differences in final prices between the large electricity providers would be only 2-3 euros for those consuming around 300 kWh and 3-4 euros for those consuming around 500 kWh per month. The differences will decrease even more as the amounts in the accounts decrease, ”he says.
It’s not just the price that matters
Currently, six companies offer electricity to the population: UAB Elektrum Lietuva, UAB Enefit, UAB Ignitis, UAB Inregnum, UAB Egto energija and UAB Perlas Energija. More information about each of them is available on the website www.pasirinkitetiekeja.lt
“The number of providers has been growing gradually since the announcement of the change, which shows that we can also expect more competition in the future. This would mean even more diversity and more interesting offers for residents,” says ESO representative T Kavaliauskas.
According to T. Janeliūnas, although very brilliant exceptional solutions have not been seen so far, existing providers are already looking for ways to engage customers with various benefits.
“Most offer additional options: for example, supplying only ‘green’ electricity produced from renewable sources. Also, almost everyone offers a plan that will depend on current electricity prices on the exchange. In this way, residents could hypothetically save if prices fell on the stock market, but would also pay more if they rose. These plans are usually accompanied by a risk fee ”, says the expert.
According to him, the convenience and service aspects should also be evaluated: not all providers offer the same payment methods, the self-service websites they offer are also different.
“The choice can also be determined by very individual reasons: service, communication expertise, vendor implemented marketing solutions,” concludes T. Janeliūnas.
Independent provider before December 10 of this year. Customers who consume more than 420 kWh of electricity per month or pay more than 60 euros per month are invited to choose. To this day, consumers will continue to be able to use electricity without choosing the desired supplier, but as of January 1. it will be provided as a warranty supply service. The law stipulates that a factor of 1.25 is applied to the price of electricity during guaranteed supply, and the guaranteed supplier is ESO. The guaranteed supply is guaranteed for a period of 6 months.
Residents with lower electricity consumption will be invited to choose supplier in 2021 and 2022. However, regardless of the amount of electricity consumed, all consumers can contract with the desired suppliers now.
