The man, who did not want his first and last name mentioned, has lived in Klaipeda with his Lithuanian fiancée since September. He says his house is here.
In March, he flew back to France for a short time, where he was stranded due to coronaviruses and related restrictions.
“I waited until last week until I found out that the government had allowed residents of Lithuania to come. I live in Klaipeda, my house is there.
When I arrived at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris yesterday, I was warned that, with caution, I sometimes have to prove that I was a resident of that country. Then I called the French Embassy in Lithuania and asked if I could come. I was directed to the Lithuanian embassy in France. They told me that “if you live in Lithuania, you can come, you just have to prove that you live here.” That’s what I got on the plane, “said the man.
After disembarking in Vilnius, the man encountered problems. At first remember that you didn’t even get a clear answer about what happened, not eating in the morning.
“Finally, around 9.30 p.m. he explained that Lithuania does not want to let me in because I do not have the necessary documents: a residence permit in Lithuania,” said the Frenchman.
He didn’t even think that the Schengen area might need it. He said he has an apartment lease as proof that he lives in Lithuania. He explained to the man that he could fly on Friday. However, he doesn’t want to because he misses his girlfriends and has been considering Lithuania as his home for some time.
“It is very difficult not to be able to return to myself. I will comply with the laws of Lithuania,” said the man.
There is no reason to enter the country.
According to officials of the State Border Guard Council (SBGS), a French citizen who has arrived in Lithuania cannot be admitted to the country because he is not a citizen or member of a Lithuanian family. If the husband had already married his fiancée, he would receive permission to return to the family.
“It just came to our attention then. Since the Vilnius-Frankfurt flights take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, it will return tomorrow. A French citizen cannot be admitted because foreigners are prohibited from entering Lithuania unless there are exceptions, but they are not subject to none of the exceptions: he is not a member of the family of Lithuanian citizens or a person with a residence permit in Lithuania. The man got into an embarrassing situation, perhaps he was not entirely interested in him, so now he awaits the return flight. Border guards appreciate him. They brought him food, delivered by acquaintances, we gave him tea and coffee. He has warm coatings. The man fell into a situation where neither the officers could change anything himself, except that I would get a plane and fly back, ”explained SBGS representative Giedrius Mišutis.
Under the current government order, foreign citizens are prohibited from entering Lithuania from the beginning of the quarantine. From May 15. Latvian and Estonian citizens have the right to enter Lithuania freely. You will not have to justify the purpose of your trip, nor does 14-day self-isolation apply in Lithuania. Foreign citizens must have a residence permit in Lithuania or another strong connection to our country: family, labor or other exceptions provided by the Government.
