According to the report, after the explosion, a fire broke out in one of the streets of Krantin. The apartments in the eighth house within it are suspected to have people.
The Kupiškis and Panevėžys fire and rescue forces were dispatched to the disaster site, and information about the incident was released to the Panevėžys ambulance station.
As DELFI was informed by the Fire and Rescue Department, an open flame burned on the ground floor of the apartment when firefighters arrived. Two residents had left the department (born in 1968 and 2006) and were taken to the hospital by ambulance due to burns.
Firefighters evacuated 18 people from the apartment building, while others left.
The three-bedroom apartment burned down and all its windows shattered. The windows of the apartments above this apartment were also broken by the heat. The staircase burned, the windows were also broken, the doors of four apartments and the electrical panel on the ground floor were burned.
The explosion damaged several cars parked near the house.
Gas carriers have shut off gas supplies to this and several nearby houses. The fire was extinguished at 2.33 p.m.
A settlement event venue has been established with representatives of the fire brigade, the municipality, civil protection and the police.
The cause of the fire and explosion Thursday morning has yet to be officially determined. The disaster is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.
