Vedrick, who was appointed to a new position, said that salary did not deter him.
“I am driven and impressed by the challenges that await me as a procurement manager and the opportunity to contribute to them,” he said in an interview with Žinių radijo’s “News Interview” program.
Vedrick said he had received a proposal to fill the position of VPN chief of the Presidency.

“I received an offer from the president’s team. The proposal was made before, but the decision had to be made to consult the family, since the position of the head of Public Procurement and the expectations of Public Procurement itself are very high. That decision took a while, “he said.
When asked why he agreed, the future manager said he wanted to make a difference.
“It is very easy to look from the sidelines and criticize what could be done differently, what could be done better. In my opinion, if there is an opportunity, you should try to come and do it.
To the extent that we communicate with the contracting authorities, with the Public Procurement Office, with the suppliers, they all yearn for change, they want more efficient public procurement. There are really no criticisms of the Procurement Office here. The service is certainly working well within its resources, but we have a very large procurement system, <...> and here the challenge for the system itself is whether we are able to train such a number of specialists so that they can competently perform public procurement, ”said D.Vedrick.

Changes that start with skill development
“I have no preconceived ideas about the Office of Public Procurement, but the goal of all of us is to make the system as open, transparent and credible as possible,” he added.
According to the future director of the VPN, the changes are mainly necessary to develop the competencies of the procurement organizers.
“The state really spends a lot of money on public procurement. We have a large number of contracting authorities in the country, and if we want to make a change, that change must start with the development of skills. Often times, violations, discrepancies, which do not even create the conditions for a final result or the determination of the winner, are influenced by incompetence and lack of knowledge, ”said D.Vedrickas.
Training can be helpful here, he said.
But we must not forget things such as the centralization of supply, digitization and standardization of processes, so that simple, day-to-day purchases can be made quickly, easily and without hesitation by people, even those without skills. significant ”, he added.

Vedrick assured that the professional career has risen in a transparent way and has no connection to power.
“I have no connections or kinship with current rulers or future rulers. I got to the position I am in right now with my job, it went on purpose.
I came to public procurement in 2011, having worked in public procurement policy for over six years. <....>. This was followed by a career as head of the Central Contracting Authority for more than three and a half years. “Now the next step in my career is the position of Director of the Public Procurement Office,” he said.
He hopes to agree with the authorities.
When it became clear that the president had approved the candidacy of D.Vedrickas for the position of head of the VPN presented by the prime minister, the future prime minister Ingrida Šimonytė did not agree that now, at the end of the government term, it is the right moment.
